Update gold price this afternoon 5/16/2025 in the world

At the time of trading at 9:37 a.m. on May 16, 2025 (Vietnam time), the world gold price recorded by Kitco was at 3,205.6 USD/ounce. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (26,110 VND/USD), the world gold price is equivalent to about 101.42 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Compared with the domestic SJC gold bar price on the same day (115.7-118.7 million VND/tael), the SJC gold price is currently about 17.28 million higher than the international gold price.

Gold prices today, May 16, 2025, on the world market are falling, marking the sharpest decline in six months. Spot gold prices fell 0.6% to $3,221.19 per ounce. Since the beginning of the week, gold has lost more than 3% of its value, becoming the worst week since November 2024. The main reason is the strengthening of the US dollar and the easing of concerns about the trade war between the US and China, making gold less attractive as a safe asset.

The US dollar rose 0.2% this week and is on track for a fourth straight week of gains. A stronger dollar makes gold more expensive for buyers using other currencies, reducing the appeal of the precious metal. In addition, trade tensions between the US and China have eased after the two countries agreed to temporarily reduce tariffs imposed on each other in April, making many investors less likely to seek gold as a safe haven.

Despite the fall in gold prices, there are some positive signs. In Asia, physical demand for gold increased as prices fell, stimulating buyers. This suggests that gold is still considered a valuable asset, especially in times of global economic and inflation uncertainty. In addition, gold is often favored when interest rates are low, as it provides protection against economic or political volatility.

However, other factors are also influencing the market. Recent economic data from the US showed that producer prices unexpectedly fell in April, while retail sales growth slowed. US inflation also rose less than expected, giving a sense that the economy is stabilizing. A US Federal Reserve official said that the US economy is solid, with inflation approaching the 2% target. However, trade policies remain a factor that makes economic forecasting difficult, indirectly affecting gold prices.

In summary, gold prices today, May 16, 2025, fell due to a stronger dollar and easing trade concerns. However, gold still attracts some investors because of its role as a safe haven in times of uncertainty. These fluctuations show that the gold market remains sensitive to global economic and political changes.
