World gold price today May 15, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 2:30 p.m. today, Vietnam time, was 3,152.03 USD/ounce. Today's gold price decreased by 82.41 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,110 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 100.27 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 16.64 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
Gold prices plunged to their lowest level in more than a month as investors awaited key US inflation data to gauge the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy. Meanwhile, easing US-China trade tensions also reduced gold’s appeal as a safe haven.
Specifically, the spot gold price fell sharply by 2.55%, to its lowest level since April 10. Meanwhile, the gold futures price in the US also fell by 1.3%, to only 3,146.2 USD.
The United States and China have just reached an agreement to significantly cut tariffs and suspend new ones for 90 days, helping to de-escalate a trade war that could cause great damage to the world's two leading economies.
According to Jigar Trivedi, senior commodity analyst at Reliance Securities, gold prices have fallen sharply due to positive negotiations between the US and China, which have reduced demand for safe-haven assets. He also commented that the USD index is showing signs of recovery, and if the US retail sales data and the producer price index (PPI) are more positive, gold prices may continue to face downward pressure.
Attention now turns to US PPI figures, due out today, after this week's consumer price inflation (CPI) data came in lower than expected.
Fed policymakers are holding rates steady as they assess the impact of tariffs and trade negotiations under President Donald Trump on the economy, but the data so far is not clear enough to make a decision.
Investors will also be closely watching Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s upcoming speech for clues on the path of interest rate adjustments. Markets expect the Fed to cut interest rates by about 50 basis points this year, possibly starting in October.
Besides gold, silver price decreased by 1.1% to 31.86 USD/ounce, while palladium decreased by 0.5% to 946.4 USD. In contrast, platinum increased slightly by 0.2% to 977.75 USD.
