Connecting to consume tons of agricultural products, sharing with Nghe An people after storm No. 5

Right when storm No. 5 made landfall, hectares of sticky corn of the people in Phuc Hau block, Vinh Hung ward were ready to be harvested. Faced with the urgent situation, the ward Farmers' Association promptly intervened. On the one hand, the association's officials mobilized people to gather manpower to harvest immediately to avoid the corn being flooded and falling. On the other hand, they quickly took advantage of associations and social networking groups to call for consumption, receive orders, and ship corn to help people.

Thanks to that urgent intervention, thousands of waxy corn cobs were harvested in time, kept fresh and sold at a good price. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An - President of Vinh Hung Ward Farmers' Association said: "The association's staff divided the work among themselves, some went to the fields to help people harvest, some posted on social networks to sell products, some packaged, divided orders, and some drove to deliver the goods. All with the sole purpose of minimizing the damage to people during the storm."

The story in Vinh Hung is not an isolated case. After the storm, in the custard apple growing area in Vinh Phu ward, a series of custard apple gardens entered the peak ripening period, if they were slow, they would easily fall, rot, and be damaged. Immediately, the ward Farmers' Association stood up to act as a "bridge" between gardeners and consumers. Association officials went to the gardens, held live-streaming phones, introduced the quality of custard apples, and received orders directly from buyers. Association members' cars were mobilized to deliver goods to customers, ensuring that the custard apples reached customers quickly and safely.

Not only corn, custard-apples, but also melons of the people are consumed by the community. In Than Linh commune, after 1 day of launching, the farmers' association called for the rescue of more than 500 kg of melons of Hung Long Agricultural Service Cooperative, grown by member Bui Dinh Hoi. Currently, in Hoi's garden there are about 800 kg of various melons.

Officials, members and people continue to call for support to help his family consume the remaining melons. Mr. Hoi shared with gratitude: "Without this support, my family alone would definitely not be able to consume in time, the loss would be huge."

The spirit of sharing is also strongly spread by voluntary hearts. Such as the case of Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hao - owner of a clean flower and fruit shop in Vinh Phu ward. Knowing that a greenhouse in Vinh Loc ward was having difficulty selling melons after the storm, Ms. Hao proactively accepted to sell and ship for free. "I sell to help the garden, there is absolutely no profit, even costing me gas and delivery time. But in difficult times, I am willing to help people with anything, as long as they can salvage whatever money they can," she shared.

In vegetable growing areas, the cooperation of traders is also noteworthy. After the storm, green onions in Quynh Mai and Tan Mai wards were heavily flooded, farmers had to cut off the roots, keeping only the leaves for sale. Faced with the risk of tons of onions being wasted, local traders were busier than usual. They connected with wholesalers at wholesale markets and large restaurants to consume the flooded green onions, helping farmers reduce some of the damage.

These timely activities have created a warm picture of village love, neighborliness, and the spirit of mutual support in times of difficulty. Not only did they help farmers “rescue” agricultural products at the right time, but they also reinforced the belief that, no matter how much damage natural disasters cause, people can still rely on each other to overcome them.
