According to statistics from the Customs Department ( Ministry of Finance ), by the end of September 2025, Vietnam had exported 186,503 tons of pepper of all kinds, with a turnover of nearly 1.27 billion USD. Compared to the same period last year, the export of this commodity, known as "black gold", decreased by 7.1% in volume, but the value increased sharply by 27.8%.
The reason is that the average export price of pepper increased sharply by 37.6%, reaching 6,787 USD/ton. Thanks to that, although the year is still 3 months away, the export value of the past 9 months is almost equal to the whole year of 2024 (1.3 billion USD).
Notably, pepper exports to key markets decreased in volume but increased in value. Of which, exports to the US market in the first 9 months of 2025 reached 41.8 thousand tons, earning 312.3 million USD, down 28.2% in volume but up 4.3% in value.

Exports to the Netherlands reached 52.53 million USD, to South Korea 99.5 million USD and to India 71 million USD, up 17.7%, 43.4% and 64.3% respectively over the same period last year.
These three markets accounted for 34.8% of the pepper industry's export turnover in the past 9 months.
According to experts, Vietnam's pepper exports to the US have decreased in the past 9 months, but this may be a temporary result during the market adjustment period due to the new tax policy. Because, the advantage of lower tax rates compared to Brazil, India... along with stable supply capacity is the basis for expecting that Vietnam's pepper exports to the US will recover in the coming time.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA) said that the 20% reciprocal tax that the US applies to imported goods from Vietnam generally does not cause major concerns for Vietnamese pepper exporting enterprises.
At ports in the Ho Chi Minh City area, pepper prices on October 10 remained stable compared to the end of September 2025. Accordingly, the price of 500g/l black pepper was at 6,600 USD/ton, 550g/l black pepper was at 6,800 USD/ton and white pepper was at 9,250 USD/ton.
On the other hand, according to VPSA data, by the end of September 2025, Vietnam spent 225.7 million USD to import 36,112 tons of pepper, of which black pepper reached 30,728 tons and white pepper was 5,384 tons. Compared to the same period in 2024, the import volume increased by 51.9%, the turnover increased by 121.1%. This reflects the strong increase in demand for recycling, blending and serving deep processing.
