More than half of the urban trees in Vinh City (old) were broken and fell due to storm No. 5.

Vinh City Green Parks Joint Stock Company was assigned to manage 60,000 urban trees in Vinh City (old), but after storm No. 5, 33,000 trees were broken and felled. Meanwhile, right before the storm, the company only had time to cut and trim 200 trees to prevent storm winds.

On the afternoon of August 27, a series of broken and fallen ancient trees were still lying along the sidewalks of the streets of Vinh City (old) such as Le Duan, Nguyen Du, Le Mao.... In Truong Vinh ward, preliminary statistics of the ward showed that more than 3,000 urban trees were broken and fallen. In Thanh Vinh ward, this number was more than 2,200 trees. Among them, there were many trees on beautiful streets such as Le Mao, Phan Dinh Phung....

Mr. Ho Hoang Khanh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vinh City Green Parks Joint Stock Company said that the company was assigned to manage and take care of about 60,000 urban trees in Vinh City (old). However, through counting, the recent storm No. 5 caused more than 33,000 trees to break and fall.

Regarding the issue of many trees not being trimmed before the storm, Mr. Khanh said "we did cut them but they were not enough". "Every year, according to the assigned plan, we only cut and trim 3,000-4,000 trees. Since the beginning of the year, we have cut and trimmed about 3,000 trees, but compared to 60,000 trees, it is still too little. In addition, before the storm, there was not much time to cut and trim more. Many households, when workers usually come to cut and trim the trees in front of their houses, did not agree, wanting shade. But when the storm was approaching, they called continuously, asking for trimming", Mr. Khanh added.

According to the reporter's investigation, every year the government of Vinh City (old) signed a contract with Vinh City Green Parks Joint Stock Company to manage and take care of trees. In 2025, Vinh City (old) signed a contract worth more than 23 billion VND with this company to manage and take care of trees, ornamental plants, and flower gardens in the area.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Director of Vinh City Green Parks Joint Stock Company said that due to limited budget, Vinh City (old) can only assign the task of pruning 2,700 trees each year. "We completed this plan right before August, before the storm season arrived. In addition, before storm No. 5 hit, we managed to cut and trim 200 more trees," said Mr. Dung.

The leader of Vinh City Green Park Joint Stock Company also said that currently, to clean up tens of thousands of broken and fallen trees, more than 100 employees of the company have been mobilized, along with many methods to coordinate with the authorities of wards and communes to thoroughly handle the situation, to complete before National Day.
