[Video] Protecting World Heritage from Extreme Climate Change

From late October to November 2025, Hue and Da Nang cities experienced consecutive historic floods, causing two World Cultural Heritages, the Complex of Hue Monuments and Hoi An Ancient Town, to be "submerged" in water for many days, causing some serious damage.

Located in the “flood center” of the Central region, the ancient capital of Hue and the ancient town of Hoi An facing the impact of annual floods is not a new story. However, over time, the deterioration of ancient architectural works and the increasingly complex and extreme developments of climate change, especially heavy floods, pose many difficulties and challenges for the two cities in management, requiring a new approach with comprehensive and sustainable solutions.

After the recent historic floods, the protection and sustainable preservation of architectural works here requires more attention and resources from the Central Government and the two city authorities, in the context of the increasingly obvious and serious impacts of climate change.
