On the morning of December 2, the King of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, visited and worked at the headquarters of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group ( Viettel ).
Attending the meeting were Brunei Prince Abdul Mateen and a high-ranking delegation of Brunei, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense, delegations from the Office of the President , Ministry of National Defense, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the meeting, the Sultan of Brunei directly viewed and expressed interest in high-tech industrial products, network security and digital transformation researched and developed by Viettel.
Brunei has critical oil and gas infrastructure and maritime routes, requiring modern information protection and surveillance capabilities. The country is also implementing the “Smart Nation - Digital Economy Masterplan 2025” strategy with the goal of developing a synchronous, secure, long-term digital infrastructure.
Therefore, high-tech industrial products and digital transformation mastered by Viettel and deployed in Vietnam and many countries became the main concern in the working session between the two sides.

"This visit and working session of His Majesty the King is an important milestone, further deepening the friendship and trust between Vietnam and Brunei, opening up new directions of cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and Viettel with the Ministry of National Defense, the Royal Brunei Army and Brunei enterprises," said Major General Nguyen Dinh Chien, Deputy General Director representing Viettel Group during the working session.
Viettel representatives also proposed directions for cooperation in technology fields suitable to Brunei's needs and Viettel's strengths, including high-tech defense industry, cyber security, national digital transformation, new generation telecommunications, and digital finance.
Specifically, Viettel has the capacity to provide simulation systems for shooting, driving, and train driving training, as well as network security solutions to protect industrial control infrastructure at key facilities.
"All systems are researched and designed by Viettel, mastering core technology, and ready to be customized according to requirements," Major General Nguyen Dinh Chien added about the potential for cooperation between the two sides.
Regarding national digital transformation, Viettel has deployed and mastered 5G technology, large-scale data centers, e-government and smart cities in Vietnam and many countries.
Brunei has a developed telecommunications infrastructure, but the Fintech and digital payment market still has a lot of room to expand; the need to digitize public services, commerce and tourism is growing. Meanwhile, Viettel has experience in deploying Mobile Money, eKYC, highly secure digital payments and national digital financial ecosystems in many markets around the world.

Immediately after the working session, Viettel proposed sending working delegations to Brunei to concretize cooperation projects in technology fields with key ministries/sectors and businesses of Brunei.
The working session at Viettel Group took place during the State visit to Vietnam by the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam and a high-ranking delegation. This is an important visit to evaluate the results of the implementation of the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries in recent times, and at the same time bring the bilateral relationship to new heights, becoming more practical and effective./.
