Promoting tourism cooperation and visitor exchange between Vietnam and Jilin (China)

On December 2, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Phan Linh Chi had a meeting and worked with the delegation of the Propaganda Department of the Jilin Provincial Party Committee (China) led by Mr. Wang Weidong - Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Jilin Provincial Radio and Television Station to strengthen cooperation, cultural and tourism exchanges, and promote two-way visitor exchange.

At the meeting, Mr. Wang Weidong emphasized that Jilin is the center of Northeast China, with a population of about 100 million people, possessing a unique cultural heritage. He said that the province has two colors to promote and introduce to the public, in which: green symbolizes nature, with a forest coverage rate of 47%, along with a system of three major rivers, Changbai Mountain owns precious flora and fauna, including ginseng and many minerals, along with 8 national reserves and eco-tourism areas; silver symbolizes ice and snow, with 4 characteristics including wind, snow, snow powder and frost, which is the foundation for the development of 68 ski resorts, of which 3 are in the top 10 ski destinations in China. He emphasized that the phenomenon of frost and frost in Jilin creates a fairy-tale landscape, appearing only about 50-60 days a year, making the province known as the "frost and frost capital" or "ski paradise".

Mr. Wang Weidong expressed his hope that the two sides will cooperate in promoting tourism, building inter-line products, improving service quality, language training and media development, targeting young tourists, and at the same time combining Jilin's ice and snow resources with Vietnam's sea and islands to create attractive seasonal tourism products.

Regarding communication work, Deputy Director of the Tourism Information Center (Vietnam National Tourism Administration) Tran Thi Lan Anh said that the website vietnamtourism.gov.vn is the official information channel of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, providing data, market information, policies and tourism products to localities, domestic enterprises and central and local press agencies. At the same time, the website vietnam.travel focuses on strongly promoting the image and brand of Vietnamese tourism internationally, combining with social networking sites such as Facebook and Instagram, providing information to target markets and contributing to attracting international tourists. According to the latest data from similarweb.com, in October 2025, the website vietnam.travel ranked 2nd in Southeast Asia, just behind Thailand's tourism website.

In addition, the bilingual Travel+ magazine in Vietnamese and English introduces the natural beauty, culture and people of Vietnam, and provides useful information about quality products and services for tourists such as tours, accommodation, transportation, shopping, cuisine , and entertainment. Deputy Director Tran Thi Lan Anh said that it is possible to coordinate in promoting the image of Jilin tourism on the media and publications of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, contributing to attracting young people to visit, and hopes that Jilin will also promote the image of Vietnam tourism on local media channels.

Regarding tourism promotion and advertising, Deputy Head of the Department of International Relations and Tourism Promotion Tran Thi Phuong Nhung said that tourist exchanges between Vietnam and China are recovering strongly, with 4.3 million Chinese visitors to Vietnam in the first 10 months of 2025, an increase of more than 40% over the same period in 2024, while Vietnam is also a large market sending visitors to China. Travel between the two countries is increasingly convenient with many direct flights, the visa policy of the Vietnamese Government is very flexible, allowing e-visas to be issued to citizens of all countries, with a maximum stay of 90 days and multiple entries and exits. The Chinese Government also applies favorable policies for international visitors, such as visa issuance at the border gate, 240-hour transit visas and visa exemption for many countries or groups, creating favorable conditions for two-way tourism.

Ms. Nhung added that the Vietnam National Tourism Administration has actively participated in and organized promotional activities in the Chinese market, and in 2025, it was implemented in 6 out of 10 key cities in China (including Beijing, Chongqing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou), contributing to promoting two-way tourist exchange and effectively promoting Vietnamese products and destinations. At the same time, she hopes that in the following years, Jilin will coordinate with the Vietnam National Tourism Administration to organize survey programs and promote tourism.

Deputy Director Phan Linh Chi emphasized that in addition to promoting and communicating, the two sides have the potential to cooperate in training tourism human resources. The system of universities and colleges of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism currently has 8 schools across the country, many facilities have practice areas, creating opportunities for students to study and experience practical professional skills such as room, table, bar, kitchen. The majority of universities have Chinese departments, helping students not only improve their language skills but also develop a team of Chinese-speaking tour guides, meeting the increasingly diverse needs of international tourists and contributing to improving service quality.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue to coordinate in implementing promotional activities, surveying destinations, building inter-route tourism products, promoting people-to-people exchanges and two-way tourist exchanges, and strengthening communication on social networking sites to attract young people. Vietnam and Jilin can complement each other in terms of four-season potential, with Southern Vietnam standing out for its warm sunny season and Jilin famous for its cold winter, helping to create diverse and rich tourism experiences. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will closely coordinate with Jilin, promote two-way promotion and exchange of visitors, towards an effective and sustainable cultural and tourism cooperation relationship in the coming time.
