At the time of trading at 9:37 a.m. on May 16, 2025 (Vietnam time), the world gold price recorded by Kitco was at 3,223.04 USD/ounce. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (26,110 VND/USD), the world gold price is equivalent to about 101.97 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Compared with the domestic SJC gold bar price on the same day (118.5-120.8 million VND/tael), the SJC gold price is currently about 18.82 million higher than the international gold price.

Experts believe that gold prices may continue to rise in the coming time if economic indicators continue to show instability in production. However, the level of increase will depend on many factors, including interest rate developments and the value of the USD.
Gold prices are currently recovering, reaching $3,192/ounce, thanks to escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia during peace talks in Türkiye. President Trump said that negotiations between Ukraine and Russia will not progress unless he meets directly with President Putin. Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy has shown little enthusiasm for the current round of talks.
In Asia, demand from gold ETFs, especially in China, remains strong, with the latest session recording the largest inflows since April 24, despite positive developments in US-China negotiations.
According to TD Securities, the change in the structure of gold buyers suggests that the possibility of a price decline will be limited. Gold price movements clearly reflect the long-term macro trend. The US dollar is still the main reserve currency, but is gradually losing its role as a value protector.
Institutional investors and hedge funds such as CTAs continue to hold long positions in gold and are unlikely to sell unless gold prices fall sharply to $3,050/ounce, reinforcing expectations that gold prices will stabilize in the near term.
Financial expert Phan Dung Khanh predicts that the price of SJC gold bars may decrease following the trend of world gold prices, but this is unlikely to happen in the short term. Currently, the gap between domestic and international gold prices remains high and unreasonable. However, intervention measures by the State Bank and the Government are starting to take effect.
Closing the gap between domestic and international gold prices takes time and cannot be achieved immediately. The policy goal is to bring domestic gold prices closer to global prices, instead of forcing them down sharply to match the international market.
