The award is an important turning point in the singing career.

On the evening of November 28, the final round of the Hanoi Voice 2024 contest took place at the Opera House, Hanoi, with performances by 12 excellent singers.

In the final night, Minh Phuong (2003, Hung Yen ) attracted attention because she was the only contestant of folk music to make it into the top 12 and won third prize.

“This is a great happiness, a special milestone in my singing career,” the female student of the Vocal Music Department, Vietnam National Academy of Music shared after receiving the award.

She added: “Looking back, I have been lucky. At school, I received guidance and training from teacher Dao To Loan. She gave me a foundation in vocal music.

Now, I am guided by People's Artist Nhat Thuan and Meritorious Artist To Nga, two teachers who have given me confidence in myself, overcome my self-consciousness and inferiority complex, and am ready to conquer the road ahead.

During the time of the Hanoi Voice Contest, I also received valuable advice from Meritorious Artist Tan Nhan, Head of the Vocal Department, on how to perform the work, helping me make breakthroughs. All of these things have become the motivation for me to strive for now and in the future."

According to Minh Phuong, she is satisfied with the third prize of the contest. This award is not only meaningful to her in terms of her career, but is also especially important in helping Minh Phuong "transform" into a brave girl, not afraid of any challenge.

The girl from Hung Yen will continue to "fight" at the Hanoi Singing Contest 2024 and will be supported by People's Artist Nhat Thuan and Meritorious Artist To Nga. Minh Phuong is working hard to practice for the final round taking place at the end of December in Hanoi.

Had depression in the past, wanted to quit the job

Looking at the young female singer, currently a student at the Faculty of Vocal Music, Vietnam National Academy of Music, full of vitality, passionate about melodies and lyrics on stage, few people would think that not long before, she had a long period of depression.

From a girl who thought she had no artistic qualities or style, Minh Phuong has now transformed both in image and thinking, becoming increasingly stronger and more confident (Photo: Character provided).

Minh Phuong grew up in a family with an aunt and uncle pursuing art, so from a young age she lived in an artistic environment, and was soon immersed in traditional folk melodies such as Trong Quan, Cheo...

When she was in school, Minh Phuong was always a seed of the arts at school, so her parents soon oriented their daughter towards art. In grade 9, she took the entrance exam to the Intermediate level of the Vietnam National Academy of Music but failed. Returning to “take revenge”, the following year, she took the exam again and ranked in the top 3 of the exam.

I thought that pursuing art would be a smooth path, but unexpectedly, after studying for a while, Minh Phuong suddenly felt lost in the art environment, always thinking that she chose the wrong career.

“That feeling made me feel depressed, I just lay down and slept every day, not interested in studying. In class, I always felt isolated among my friends, unable to integrate. Many times I asked my parents if I had chosen the wrong career. My parents were also very worried and could only encourage me to try harder,” Minh Phuong said.

Now looking back at the past 2 years, she thinks that maybe due to the psychology of adolescence, her initial image of learning vocal music was different from reality, and her feeling of inferiority made her fall into a state of depression.

Meeting teachers who were also artists every day, Minh Phuong assumed that she had no artistic qualities. She became increasingly self-conscious, withdrawn, and afraid to communicate. There was a time when Minh Phuong wanted to give up her studies and become a professional singer.

It was during that moment of discouragement that Minh Phuong happened to meet People's Artist Nhat Thuan, Captain of the Military Region 3 Art Troupe, during a performance to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory in Dien Bien for Hung Yen province.

In that performance, she sang the song Ky Uc Co Noi , which made a strong impression on People's Artist Nhat Thuan, forcing him to meet Minh Phuong and invite her to collaborate with the Military Region 3 Art Troupe currently stationed in Hai Phong.

It was the care and love for talent of People's Artist Nhat Thuan that "reborn" the love of art in Minh Phuong. The young girl then realized that she really had the ability. And so she accepted to collaborate with the Art Troupe of Military Region 3, finding her inspiration in studying and striving again.

Admiring Minh Phuong's talent, People's Artist Nhat Thuan wanted her to go further, so he entrusted Minh Phuong to Meritorious Artist To Nga to guide and train her further by participating in music competitions, starting with the Hanoi Voice 2024 competition.

Minh Phuong shared that if People's Artist Nhat Thuan "reborn" the love of music in her heart, Meritorious Artist To Nga helped her hold her head high and walk forward on her career journey.

With extensive experience, meticulous and even harsh training from practicing contest entries, to requiring hard physical exercise every day to improve body shape, then finding a designer to create the image,... Meritorious Artist To Nga helps Minh Phuong to be confident in herself, bold in communication and ready to conquer herself.

In particular, the meeting with People's Artist Nhat Thuan and Meritorious Artist To Nga helped Minh Phuong find her path in music, which was to pursue folk music.

At school, Minh Phuong studied chamber music and she always found it difficult to succeed. When she switched to folk singing, Minh Phuong's love for traditional music and folk music since she was young was like a source that was opened, flowing abundantly in her veins, helping her to excel in the 2024 Hanoi Voice contest.
