Emergency crews in Oregon rescued 28 people on June 14 after they were trapped for about half an hour hanging upside down while trying out a ride called AtmosFEAR at a century-old amusement park, according to The Guardian .
In a statement, Oaks Amusement Park said that when the Ferris wheel stopped, park staff immediately called 911 and emergency responders arrived about 25 minutes later. A rider with an underlying medical condition was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Portland Fire and Rescue said on social media platform X that firefighters were working with engineers at Oaks Park to manually lower the upside-down Ferris wheel and were preparing for additional rope rescues if necessary.

Portland Fire and Rescue said there were about 30 people on the Ferris wheel. Oaks Amusement Park later confirmed that 28 people were on the ride when it happened. All of the trapped riders were rescued and no one was injured in the incident.
The AtmosFEAR upside-down Ferris wheel is a pendulum-like ride that rotates riders 360 degrees upside down. Park officials said the ride has been in operation since 2021 and has had no previous incidents. The park will be closed until further notice. Park officials said they will work with the Ferris wheel manufacturer and state inspectors to investigate the cause of the incident.
