According to the Nha Trang Maritime Port Authority (under the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration), from August 2024, the unit has signed a coordination plan with local agencies, authorities and 6 port enterprises to handle the situation of illegal aquaculture and fishing in maritime channels, anchorage areas and waters in front of ports within Khanh Hoa seaport, especially Cam Ranh Bay area.

Many waterways are clear.

Up to now, the dedicated waterway of Cam Ranh International Port has been completely cleared of aquaculture cages. The Ba Ngoi maritime waterway no longer encroaches on the main waterway, and the number of cages encroaching on the waterway protection corridor has significantly decreased. Anchorage area D and the dedicated branch waterways into the port have also become more open. In particular, at the routes into Ha Tien Cement Terminal and K662 Petroleum Port, there are no new aquaculture activities.

Previously, in September 2024, SGGP Newspaper reported on the widespread development of aquaculture cages, occupying almost the entire protection corridor of maritime works in the bay, making it impossible for large ships over 20,000 DWT to anchor, seriously affecting the exploitation activities of ports.

The risk of re-encroachment still exists.

Mr. Tran Tuan Hiep, Director of Nha Trang Maritime Port Authority, said that the clearance work still faces many difficulties because some households only move cages to other locations instead of completely dismantling them. This makes the risk of re-encroachment still very high.

The port authority recommends that appropriate sanctions be imposed on those who do not comply with the relocation. At the same time, port businesses should also proactively promote and clear areas within their management scope.

In the coming time, the authorities, local governments and port enterprises will continue to promote propaganda and thoroughly handle the encroachment situation in the areas affected by the Ba Ngoi dredging and maintenance project.
