At the ceremony, the Vietnam National Association of Stage Artists awarded 3 B prizes and 6 C prizes (no A prizes) to stage performances in 2023. The 3 B prizes went to "Lôi Vũ" (Lệ Ngọc Stage); "Nửa cõi sơn hà" (Nguyễn Hiển Dĩnh Tuồng Theatre); and "Đại đội trưởng của tôi" (Army Chèo Theatre). Regarding the Scriptwriter – Research Book on Theory and Criticism award, there were 4 B prizes for "Vòng tròn bội bạc" (Chu Lai); "Xuân Hương nữ sỹ" (Nguyễn Đức Minh); "Ngôi sao không tắt" (Nguyễn Đình San); and "Sự trở lại của sân khấu" (Nguyễn Thế Khoa), along with 6 C prizes and 7 Encouragement prizes for authors and works. Also on this occasion, the Vietnam National Association of Stage Artists awarded prizes for outstanding artist and outstanding actor to 11 individuals. Awards were presented for the playwright writing contest on the theme of teenagers and children, with 2 A prizes, 3 B prizes, and 7 C prizes.

Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations Do Hong Quan and Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Theatre Artists Trinh Thuy Mui presented the B prize for the 2023 theatre performance competition.
In his concluding remarks on theatrical works, playwright and Dr. Nguyen Dang Chuong, Chairman of the Art Council, stated that the 2023 Theatre Awards did not have a first prize (A) for either plays or literary scripts. The Art Council had to sift through the good and bad to select a number of second prizes (B). Given the bleak reality of the theatre scene last year, the Art Council recognized the urgent need to clearly identify the obstacles, difficulties, and existential impasses facing theatre; from there, to find the root causes and develop substantive solutions, only then can theatre truly take flight.
According to Dr. Nguyen Dang Chuong, the Vietnam National Association of Stage Artists currently has 218 members, both professional and amateur authors. However, the number of authors whose scripts are regularly staged in professional art units can be counted on the fingers of one hand. In recent years, the author community has been facing a deadlock in terms of creative direction and methods of understanding and interpreting the conflicts and contradictions of society and people today. Perhaps because of this deadlock, most authors choose to write about historical and folk themes, not daring to reflect all aspects of contemporary life. Using history and folklore to convey new and useful messages for life today is very valuable. However, most works only reach the level of illustrating history.
Dr. Nguyen Dang Chuong frankly acknowledges that today's audience needs authors to deliver insightful and predictive messages based on real-life experiences; to truthfully reflect emerging issues in people and society in order to explain and contribute to a better life; to convey the joys, happiness, and bitterness of people in modern life, broadening the understanding of beautiful and humane aspects, and discarding what is becoming an obstacle hindering development. "Perhaps this is also one of the fundamental reasons why the theater is so dull and uninteresting," said Dr. Nguyen Dang Chuong.
