'Giao Tien' - a teacher without a podium and memorable advice for the younger generation

Mr. Hoang Nam Tien is one of the veteran leaders of FPT Corporation. Having joined FPT in 1993, he has been with the corporation for more than 30 years and has held many important positions in the corporation. In addition to his management talent, he has also left his mark with many statements and advice that have inspired the young generation of Vietnam, and is affectionately called "Teacher Tien" by many people.

Gen Z: Be bold to buy a house and work to make money before doing what you love!

Instead of working and trying to save for decades to have money to buy a house, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien thinks that Gen Z should be brave enough to buy a house now, then use the following years to contribute and pay off debt.

"The days of saving 20% of your income to buy a house are over. Each of you should be brave and confident to own a house right now," Mr. Tien shared in a discussion with FPT Corporation employees in October 2024.

He analyzed that if they continue to save for another 5 or 10 years, the younger generation - those who work for a salary - will find it difficult to buy a house because their spending will increase. The number of young people who work for hire and save to buy a house is rare and must be extremely outstanding people.

Therefore, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien said: " You should boldly own a house now and use the next 5-10 years to work hard to pay off the debt."

Sharing the secret to increasing income for young people, especially those who have just started working, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien once emphasized: "If you only work for a salary, it will only be enough to live on, and if you stop working, you will go hungry, so you need to work properly, study properly and have a good attitude.

Each person just needs to work hard, contribute, and increase their own value in their current position, then in the next 5 years, you will change positions 2-3 times and your income will also increase. It all depends on each person's professional level, cooperative attitude, and self-learning ability."

Turn AI into your "servant"

At the sharing session within the framework of the International Technology Forum - FPT Techday 2024, Mr. Tien shared that today's Gen Z needs to be different. "The generation is not afraid of artificial intelligence and must know how to turn all existing and future artificial intelligence platforms into their "servants", into "maids" in the family" , he said and put his trust in Gen Z.

He also outlined the human resources needed in the 2023-2028 period, including: creative thinking, technological understanding, lifelong learning... Instead of lying around scrolling through their phones, showing off how many books they have read, he advised Gen Z to try to do meaningful things, beautiful actions to bring more value to both themselves and the community.

"Change jobs to leave with glory"

According to Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, if you want to change jobs whenever you encounter difficulties or frustrations, you will never be successful in your life.

"You should change jobs to leave with glory. When you finish a successful project, when everyone is praising you the most, then stand up and leave. When you are in a new place, you can absolutely say, at the old place I could have been promoted to a higher position, but at the new place I want to have new experiences and challenges," Mr. Tien once gave advice to young people.

" The world has changed, if we don't do anything, how will we know right or wrong?"

"In the past, we talked about illiteracy - meaning not knowing how to read or write. Today, we talk about technology illiteracy, meaning not knowing about AI and Big Data. Among the skills required for workers, people have asked for proficiency in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, but now they need skills in using AI and Big Data applications. The world has changed, but if we don't do it, how can we know if it's right or wrong?" , said the Vice Chairman of the School Council, FPT University.

Mr. Hoang Nam Tien (born in 1969), is a former student of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted in Mathematics, graduated from Information Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. He joined FPT Corporation in 1993, holding many leadership positions at the corporation such as General Director of Hoa Lac FPT High-Tech Park Development Company Limited (2007 - 2012), General Director of FPT Distribution Company Limited (2003 - 2008).
In 2012, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien held the position of Chairman of FPT Software. In 2020, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien was elected Chairman of FPT Telecom. During his tenure as Chairman of FPT Telecom, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien made many improvements and drastic policies to help FPT Telecom stand firm through the crisis and maintain its position.
In early 2023, he left FPT Telecom to become Vice Chairman of the Board of FPT University.
On the afternoon of July 31, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien suddenly passed away at the age of 56.
