Mastering digital technology

Following a specialized training course on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools at the beginning of the 2025 summer break, the Board of Directors of Nguyen Hue Secondary School (Hai Chau District, Da Nang ) organized a competition to design AI-based lesson plans for the 2025-2026 school year. The training, led by experts and lecturers from the University of Education, Da Nang University, guided the school's teachers on how to use AI-related applications and software in lesson design to support teaching and learning.

Mr. Vo Thanh Phuoc, Principal of Nguyen Hue Secondary School, said: “If teachers haven't used many AI-related applications and software in lesson design and teaching support, they will be hesitant to apply them to their practical work. Therefore, after the training session, launching this competition among the school's teaching staff is a way for teachers to proactively learn about and experiment with AI applications during the summer. Teachers will submit their projects before August 10th.”

The competition at Nguyen Hue Secondary School focused on designing lesson plans according to the 2018 General Education Program, in which teachers effectively applied AI to at least one of the following stages: Lesson planning and building learning materials, using AI to create content, images, videos , mind maps, multiple-choice questions, etc.; Organizing learning activities, AI supporting personalization, grouping, and suggesting learning tasks suitable to students' abilities; Evaluation and feedback, using AI to design assessment tools, analyze learning outcomes, and provide automated feedback.

According to Mr. Vo Thanh Phuoc, this will be a shared learning resource repository for the school, aiming to enhance the capacity of teachers to apply information technology and artificial intelligence; promote innovation in teaching methods towards developing students' qualities and competencies. At the same time, it will create a positive platform for teachers to interact and share experiences, forming a community of pioneering teachers in digital transformation.

Tra Nam Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School (Tra Linh, Da Nang) plans to organize training sessions in August to enhance the digital skills of its teachers.

According to Mr. Vo Dang Chin, the school principal, teachers will practice operations related to digital student records such as data entry, updating student identification codes, storing data on the system, using digital signatures, and how to comment on students' performance in various subjects when creating digital student records.

New contract teachers at Tra Nam Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School will receive additional training in information technology to meet the school's digital transformation requirements.

Teachers are required to be proficient in using the software on the Vnedu system, such as managing grades, lesson plans, teaching schedules, setting up student management and tracking, borrowing books, and managing library equipment. Accounts on Vnedu have been created and given to teachers by the school so they can familiarize themselves with digitalization in teaching.

Empowering teachers to innovate.

Besides ensuring adequate rest during the summer break, Cam Vinh Kindergarten (Cam Binh, Ha Tinh) has proactively developed a plan to organize training courses and professional development programs for its teachers. According to the plan, in early August, the school will coordinate with the local authorities to organize an intensive training session, part of the school's annual series of four training modules.

During this training session, teachers will be introduced to new documents from the Education sector – from guidelines from the Ministry of Education and Training to directives and regulations from the Ha Tinh Department of Education and Training, as well as the operational procedures of the local government after the merger. This aims to help teachers understand the new management mechanism, effectively serving the work of developing teaching plans, evaluating, and reporting on professional matters.

According to Ms. Bien Thi Dien, the principal of Cam Vinh Kindergarten, the school previously operated under the Cam Xuyen district model, with a curriculum that rarely changed. However, after the merger, the school's management board decided to implement comprehensive reforms. Cam Vinh Kindergarten invited experts in Montessori and STEM methods to guide teachers in building child-centered classrooms, flexibly using teaching aids, and developing activities that help children develop critical thinking and social skills.

As the new school year begins, Cam Vinh Kindergarten will organize field trips for its teachers to visit exemplary kindergartens to learn about modern classroom models and effective activity organization experiences. Funding for these activities will be drawn from the annual professional budget allocated by the local government.

In addition to attending training courses at school, many teachers proactively utilize their summer vacation to self-study and improve their skills. Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan from Bac Ha Kindergarten (Thanh Sen, Ha Tinh), said that for three consecutive years, she has spent her summer vacation studying the Montessori method in Hanoi.

Thanks to hands-on practice sessions, she mastered designing "child-centered" learning spaces and transformed those ideas into engaging activities suitable for preschoolers. As a result, her class consistently maintained a high academic record and served as a role model for her colleagues at the school.

Meanwhile, Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Hien from Nam Ha Primary School (Thanh Sen, Ha Tinh) chose to enhance her IT skills in teaching. She participated in many short-term courses such as "5 Days with Canva," "5 Days to Boost Teacher Capabilities with AI," etc.

Drawing on her accumulated knowledge, Ms. Hien personally designed electronic lectures and interactive materials, making lessons more engaging and effective. Furthermore, she manages and runs the Sunday Teacher Club, where she shares teaching materials and experiences for free through online classes every Sunday. The club has attracted hundreds of teachers from across the country.

“Every summer break is a valuable opportunity for teachers to improve and enhance their personal skills. The application of technology not only helps improve the quality of lessons but also inspires students to learn. More importantly, self-learning helps teachers gain more confidence when entering the new school year,” shared a teacher from Nam Ha Primary School.

Teachers master technology.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Head of the History - Geography Department at Nguyen Hue Secondary School, shared: “Through the training courses organized by the school, we have gained a foundation to delve deeper into the use of artificial intelligence (AI) software in teaching, testing, evaluation, and record management... Most teachers have quickly adapted to using modern teaching support tools as well as applying AI in management and improving the quality of education.”

However, according to Mr. Tuan, AI is a new tool, and there are many derivative artificial intelligence software programs, so choosing which application to use that suits each teacher's abilities, the specifics of the subject, and the facilities of the teacher and the school is a challenge. Exploring the features of each tool requires considerable time.

“Through discussions with subject groups, we noted that many teachers wished to receive support from experts, who would recommend applications suitable for specific educational activities and subjects, thus reducing the time spent on trial runs. For example, in History, teachers could use a virtual reality tour application to visit museums with digitized artifacts. Or in Geography, teachers could ‘take’ students ‘to’ any location in the world using only the Google Earth application,” Mr. Tuan shared.

Meanwhile, Ms. Mai Thi Thu Ha from Duy Tan High School (Quang Phu, Da Nang) stated that currently, a large number of teachers are using free AI derivative applications. Therefore, the time and features of using these tools are limited. However, not all teachers can afford to buy licensed software.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, the History and Geography subject team at Nguyen Hue Secondary School is discussing and aiming to agree on a single software program that can be purchased and used by everyone with a single account to access advanced features for teaching and learning activities.

“With current trends, teachers cannot avoid using AI products to prepare lessons, organize teaching activities, and conduct assessments. However, teachers need a certain amount of time to select which tool to use. Teachers must master the technology in order to guide students' digital skills and equip them with the ability to self-learn, using AI as a tool to support learning rather than relying entirely on it,” Mr. Tuan commented.

Mr. Pham Tan Ngoc Thuy, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Education and Training, said that to enhance the capacity of the teaching staff to meet the requirements of digital transformation and innovation, schools proactively organize training programs and in-depth professional development courses on digital transformation, new technologies such as AI, IoT, and Big Data for teachers; and support teachers in effectively using technological tools to serve modern teaching and learning.

Each school has 1-2 "core" technology teachers who act as focal points for professional support and internal training; linking evaluation, emulation, and reward systems to the level of application of science and technology and innovation in teaching.

Dr. Tran Van Hung from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, University of Education (Da Nang University), stated that: Understanding and knowing how to use AI effectively can help teachers innovate and create, using artificial intelligence tools to support the design of lectures and videos suitable for students at all levels or in university environments… However, when using AI, ethical and security issues must also be considered. Users should not become dependent on AI but should master it and use it responsibly.
