Introducing national archives on the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and the 1954 Geneva Conference

Deputy Director of the National Records and Archives Department Nguyen Thi Nga spoke at the introduction ceremony.

Speaking at the introduction, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Deputy Director of the National Records and Archives Department, said that the block of documents on the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign and the 1954 Geneva Conference is one of the blocks of documents reflecting a slice of the glorious and heroic national history in the mid-20th century, currently being preserved at the National Archives Center III.

Documents on events archived during the formation of state agencies and organizations in the following collections: Prime Minister's Office, National Assembly, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Interior , Inter-zone III Administrative Resistance Committee, Northwest Autonomous Region Administrative Resistance Committee, Left Bank Administrative Resistance Committee, Traffic Department; photo documents of the period of resistance against France (1946-1954), photo documents of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; documents, materials, books, newspapers of personal origin in the collections: Dang Thai Mai, Colonel Ha Van Lau...

In addition, National Archives Center III also receives documents from the French National Archives and the Russian Federal Archives.

Deputy Director of the National Records and Archives Department Nguyen Thi Nga emphasized that the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory marks an extremely important historical event of the country. Therefore, the organization of the introduction of national archives on the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and the Geneva Conference aims to spread the value of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, bring the documents on the Dien Bien Phu Victory to the public, therebyeducating the tradition of patriotism to future generations.

Documents on Dien Bien Phu Victory:

To practically celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement, the National Archives Center III is coordinating with the Museum of History to display, exhibit, and publish books; coordinating with the French National Archives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the French Embassy in Vietnam to organize the exhibition "Vietnam - France Relations: From Dien Bien Phu to Strategic Partnership" from documents of many agencies and organizations.

Also at the introduction, Ms. Tran Viet Hoa, Director of National Archives Center III, added that National Archives Center III is currently preserving a large volume of records and documents recreating the historical context, the command process, the preparation of the campaign; the development and results, the significance of the campaign; the process of the army and people of the whole country coordinating with the Dien Bien Phu battlefield; public opinion and international friendship about the campaign; campaign logistics; the policy of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam towards wounded and sick soldiers and deserters; documents on the optimistic fighting spirit and combat service of our army and people during the campaign.

In particular, the documents on the Dien Bien Phu campaign also reflect the talented leadership, sharp decisions and strategies of the Party, the Government and the Vietnam People's Army, the strength of solidarity and unanimity of the entire people and army determined to win in the struggle to protect national independence; and the role of General Vo Nguyen Giap - Commander-in-Chief of the campaign.

Archives of the Geneva Conference on the Restoration of Peace in Indochina in 1954, including documents and images on the historical context, developments, results of the Geneva Conference, impacts and implementation of the agreement; world public opinion on the Geneva Conference. In particular, many statements on the stance and viewpoints of the parties participating in the Conference, on the support of international friends for Vietnam, vividly reflect the developments of the Geneva Conference.

Director of National Archives Center III, Tran Viet Hoa, emphasized that the documents on the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and the Geneva Conference preserved at National Archives Center III are extremely important evidence, contributing to scientific research on historical, military, diplomatic events and the history of the Vietnamese nation.
