Recently, young people were excited when the treasure hunt game was first organized by the Jagat platform in Ho Chi Minh City. Besides some players responding, there were also people who were concerned that this game wanted to control access rights on users' phones.

Many young people stayed up until 2-3 am and wandered the streets to participate in the game as part of the "Treasure Hunting Plan" event organized by the Jagat platform in Ho Chi Minh City from November 30 to December 31.

Wandering the streets at midnight... looking for treasure

According to the game rules, users must download the application to their phone, then open the game application and enter the treasure map icon to see the coin range in the Ho Chi Minh City map.

Players have the task of finding coins among more than 1,000 coins (gold, silver, copper) randomly scattered at locations in the city. After finding and collecting enough lucky coins, players enter the redemption code to receive cash rewards.

Just launched, this game quickly received a lot of response and participation from users, especially young people. Hoang My (Phu Nhuan district) said that her group of friends stayed up several nights to "hunt for bonuses" but still did not get any, or were too late.

"For us young people, staying up all night to play games is quite interesting, although we have to sleep in the next morning, which affects our studies a bit," My said.

On the TikTok platform, typing the keyword "Jagat finds treasure" immediately displays many videos with thousands to hundreds of thousands of views and comments. In which players often ask about how to play, how to exchange coins, hunt for coins quickly, and wonder why they haven't received their money.

Jagat was previously known as an application for sharing your location and time with friends and vice versa, marking and tracking favorite places and trips.

This game is said to have a gameplay quite similar to Pokémon Go when it was introduced to Vietnam in 2016, quickly becoming popular among young people. At that time, to hunt for Pokémon Go, many young people went out to deserted places, or to parks, Bach Dang Wharf, Zoo...

Players are being invaded for privacy and causing disorder?

With the treasure hunting game of the Jagat application, while many people responded and participated, others were concerned about security when they said that in order to be granted permission to play by the application, players had to grant all access rights on their phones.

"If you have given them full access to your phone, they have already taken your information. There is nothing natural and free like that!";

"Everything has a reason, no one gives money to others like that. When you register an account, you have to have Gmail, then they control your phone and take all the money from your bank account."

"No one gives anything to anyone for free. You have to give them (the game publisher - PV) access to your phone to play. Once they have your information and phone number, they will call to bother and scam you continuously... Anyone who participates in the stock market will be in the same situation."

Those are some of the comments from users on TikTok expressing concerns about the app wanting to invade privacy.

In response to these comments, TikTok account jagat_vn (supposedly the owner of the game app) said that Jagat will not invade users' privacy and will not harm players' property. "Jagat is not capable of working as you say," Jagat wrote.

This game app also promises that the coin deposit and reward redemption are real. Users who complete the activities properly and without cheating can successfully receive rewards.

In addition, some players are concerned that the game distributes coins in crowded places, causing many players to gather to find coins, causing disorder, loss of property, and damage to public trees.

"Hide coins in parks or places with few residents. Why hide them in residential areas? People go there, many people are careless and bother people all night. Not to mention being called in by the police and militia for disturbing public order," said NH account.

Similarly, user with account LN9906 commented: "Spreading near the police area like this is unbearable. If the police act up like Pokémon Go in a few days, it's game over."

Sharing the same opinion, a player named KA, when commenting on Jagat's video, also said that it is necessary to limit hiding coins in places that are not suitable for large gatherings. "We were just reported by the people, the police and militia stood guard blocking the road. The police asked for papers, or the militia asked us to go somewhere else," this person said.

Many risks with personal data and devices

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Nguyen Quang Cuong, product director of Coc Coc Browser, said that allowing applications like Jagat to have almost full access to their phones could lead to many unpredictable security risks.

With the risk of personal data security, applications with unlimited access can collect sensitive information, such as contacts, browsing history, or personal messages, financial data... leading to the risk of unauthorized use or data leakage.

In particular, “granting location access can cause the application or a third party to continuously track your location. By granting access to the microphone and camera, the application can silently eavesdrop on conversations or record videos without the user knowing,” Mr. Cuong warned.

In addition, Mr. Cuong also said that data stored or transmitted through the application may not be encrypted, increasing the risk of being stolen by hackers. Data sold or shared with untrusted third parties will increase the risk of users being spammed, unwanted ads, or cyberattacks.

With the risk of device control, he believes that users can be hijacked for accessibility. Specifically, when users unintentionally share device control with applications, bad guys can take advantage of it to hijack some features on the device such as: interaction control modes (Switch Access) - allowing control of the device by voice commands, switches instead of the touch screen, or using buttons instead of normal operations; voice support (providing voice feedback so users can use the phone or tablet without looking at the screen)...

“With full rights, bad guys can exploit the application to install malware or control the device remotely,” Mr. Cuong warned.
