Tornadoes blew off roofs of hundreds of houses

In Ba Sao commune, the storm blew off the roofs of five kiosks of small traders in Phuong Tra market area, along provincial road 846, one of which had its roof completely collapsed and its corrugated iron walls blown away by the wind.

Mr. Khanh said that although he had reinforced the roof with stone pillars and had reinforced the roof with iron because of the strong winds for the past 2 days, the storm that lasted about 5 minutes caused the entire roof to be blown away, and the two tricycles in front of the house were also overturned.

Speaking to reporters, Ms. Truong Huyen Trang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Sao commune said that immediately after the storm occurred, the locality mobilized nearly 200 officers and local forces including police and military to participate in overcoming the consequences.

At the same time, the commune contacted Regiment 320 to increase manpower, support people in cleaning up the scene and repairing the traffic system, ensuring traffic on main roads.

As of 11:30 a.m. the same day, the entire commune recorded 162 damaged houses, of which 31 were completely collapsed and 128 had their roofs blown off. The storm also injured 9 people and damaged about 200 mango trees.

Currently, local authorities are coordinating with functional forces to urgently support people in cleaning up, and at the same time mobilizing necessities to help people stabilize their lives soon.

On July 23, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province quickly reported on the damage caused by rain and storms from 4:00 p.m. on July 22 to 10:30 a.m. on July 23. Accordingly, heavy rain and storms occurred in the communes of Thanh My, Doc Binh Kieu, Tan Phu, Ba Sao, Thap Muoi and My Ngai ward.

Accordingly, the storm collapsed 44 houses (including 30 in Ba Sao commune, 1 in Thap Muoi commune and 13 in My Ngai ward); blew off the roofs of 243 houses (including 9 in Thanh My commune, 12 in Doc Binh Kieu commune, 1 in Tan Phu commune, 124 in Ba Sao commune, 2 in Thap Muoi commune and 95 in My Ngai ward); injured 17 people (8 in Ba Sao commune, 9 in My Ngai ward);

Immediately after the incident, the People's Committees of Thanh My, Doc Binh Kieu, Tan Phu, Ba Sao, Thap Muoi communes and My Ngai ward deployed measures and forces to support people in repairing houses damaged by storms; trimming fallen trees along the roadside to facilitate traffic through the area. The People's Committees of the communes and wards are continuing to verify, count and prepare documents to support damage according to regulations.
