In late May, on many main streets of Giang Vo ward ( Hanoi City) such as Kim Ma, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Thanh Cong, Giang Vo, Nguyen Van Ngoc, Nam Cao, Nui Truc, and Nguyen Hong, street sweeping, washing, and garbage collection were maintained continuously from early morning to late night. Not only focusing on cleaning the central streets, environmental sanitation work in alleys and residential areas was also intensified to reduce garbage accumulation and localized pollution.

The Giang Vo ward is also implementing enhanced environmental sanitation measures in the context of the 2026 high school entrance exam. Many streets and areas around exam centers, schools, and main traffic routes are being prioritized for sweeping and washing to reduce dust and waste, creating a clean and convenient environment for candidates and parents during the exam days.

According to the Investment and Infrastructure Project Management Board of Giang Vo Ward, environmental sanitation is regularly maintained, ensuring that 100% of streets and residential areas in the ward are kept clean, with no garbage accumulating until the next day. Environmental sanitation forces simultaneously carry out sweeping, vacuuming, washing streets, cleaning sidewalks, and cleaning garbage collection points using both manual and mechanical methods.

Notably, the ward has requested an increase in the frequency of watering and washing streets on major roads such as Kim Ma, Nguyen Chi Thanh, and Giang Vo from once every two days, to be completed before 6 am, in order to reduce dust accumulation before peak traffic hours.

In addition to focusing on garbage collection and transportation, Giang Vo ward has also implemented various measures to address the root cause of illegal garbage dumping.

According to the Investment and Infrastructure Project Management Board of the ward, the unit has coordinated with the Urban Environment Company Limited - Ba Dinh Branch and other functional forces to review 21 locations where tools and cages are stored in the area. Of these, 6 locations have been renovated, such as the area at No. 9 Dao Tan Street, B1 Thanh Cong Street, Kim Ma bus station, and alley 10 Nguyen Hong Street.

At the same time, the ward also installed cameras at many locations where littering frequently occurs, such as B1 Thanh Cong Street, alleys 10-12-14-16 Nguyen Hong Street, the intersection of Linh Lang and Phan Ke Binh streets, and the Thanh Cong Department Store area.

Mr. Dao Khanh Duy, Deputy Director of the Investment and Infrastructure Project Management Board of Giang Vo Ward, said that installing cameras not only serves for monitoring but also contributes to changing people's awareness in maintaining environmental hygiene.

“Areas where illegal dumping frequently occurs will be monitored more closely to promptly detect and handle violations. The ward's goal is not only to clean up immediately but also to foster a civilized urban lifestyle in the long term,” Mr. Duy shared.

According to him, along with addressing the "black spot" of waste, the ward is continuing to improve the waste transfer point at alley 16 Nguyen Hong and coordinating with relevant units to review other areas with shortcomings in order to develop appropriate improvement plans.

Garbage collection is scheduled to prevent accumulation.

One of the notable changes in Giang Vo ward recently is the adjustment of the household solid waste collection and transportation schedule, starting at 8 PM daily until all waste is collected. According to the Ward's Investment and Infrastructure Project Management Board, the change in collection time aims to reduce traffic congestion and minimize the accumulation of waste on sidewalks during the day.

To ensure efficiency, the ward requires the environmental unit to develop a plan for collecting and transporting garbage, ensuring that no garbage remains at the collection points for more than two hours. Collection vehicles are also inspected and maintained regularly, and stamped with technical and hygiene assurance labels before being put into operation.

From May 19th to 26th, 2026, environmental sanitation forces in Giang Vo ward collected over 643 tons of garbage using large-capacity compactor trucks; maintained the cleanliness of over 245km of streets using machinery; and washed streets totaling over 63km in length.

In addition to collecting household waste, Giang Vo ward is also strengthening the handling of construction waste and bulky garbage in many areas where land clearance is underway, such as the De La Thanh route and other infrastructure projects in the area. Inter-agency teams including traffic inspectors, urban construction order enforcement officers, and environmental units are regularly maintained to inspect and handle cases of illegal waste disposal.

“During the 2026 high school entrance exam period, the increased street sweeping and washing, the handling of garbage hotspots, and the monitoring of environmental sanitation using cameras in Giang Vo ward not only contribute to urban beautification but also create a clean and airy environment around the exam sites. This is also one of the solutions to ensure more favorable conditions for candidates, parents, and residents during the peak days of the exam,” Mr. Dao Khanh Duy emphasized.
