Thousands of reasons to quit a job

Every year after Tet , when workers return to work, many families in Hanoi fall into chaos and struggle because of a lack of domestic help.

After Tet is the time when many families face the worry of finding a new housekeeper.

Ms. Nguyen Minh Thao (32 years old, living in Dong Da District, Hanoi) has been running around looking for a housekeeper after Tet . From contacting the housekeeper service center, to posting a search on groups or asking relatives, she still hasn't found a satisfactory housekeeper. Ms. Thao said that after a period of returning to her hometown for Tet , the old housekeeper had no desire to return and automatically quit without reason. Even though she called or tried to contact her via social networks, there was no news.

"The salary I paid my old maid was 7 million VND/month, plus a bonus for Tet and all family travel expenses, but when I quit, I didn't even receive a phone call to inform me. This unprofessional way of working (the maid - PV) caused me a lot of trouble, leaving me unable to react in time," Ms. Thao said indignantly.

More ironically, Ms. Le Ngoc Ha (36 years old, living in Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) shared that she and the maid have been together for 4 years, and are very compatible in lifestyle, personality and work. When she sent her maid back to her hometown for Tet , she did not forget to give her a 13th month salary bonus along with some gifts from her family. However, a few days ago, she received a message from her maid saying that she would quit because her son loved his mother and did not agree to let her go to the city to work anymore, but stayed home to rest in her old age.

"I was both laughing and crying, not knowing how to handle this situation. My uncle suddenly asked for leave, so the family didn't have time to find a new housekeeper. Both my husband and I are civil servants, and because of our busy work, we don't have time to take care of our young children, so we had to ask our grandparents in the countryside to help us out for a few days," Ha sighed.

There are also many cases where domestic workers voluntarily quit their jobs because they do not fit in with the lifestyle and personality of the employer's family. Ms. Chu Ngoc (53 years old, Thanh Hoa ) shared that she had long been frustrated with the employer's ill-willed attitude, and because she was returning to her hometown to enjoy the family atmosphere, she could not bear to leave, so she called to quit.

Many others had intended to quit before but were afraid of losing their Tet bonus so they still tried to work. After Tet , when the employer called to come back to work, they made up all kinds of excuses to avoid and quit.

Hourly maid service "reigns"

While the demand for hiring domestic helpers after Tet is increasing, the supply of domestic helpers is somewhat scarce. Many domestic help service centers receive hundreds of recruitment information a day, but the number of applications is only half of the actual demand.

According to a survey by reporters at some domestic help service centers in Hanoi, the price of hiring a domestic helper before Tet is around 6 - 8 million VND/month. After Tet , the price increases significantly, ranging from 7 - 10 million VND/month, along with many attractive benefits. However, many families are still struggling to find a domestic helper, because at this time many workers do not want to go to the city and the trend of "job hopping" is increasing.

According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Nam, representative of Dai An Housekeeping Center (Ho Tung Mau, Mai Dich, Hanoi), due to the difficulty in choosing a housekeeper to live with and stay with for a long time, many families now choose hourly cleaning services. Every day, Mr. Nam's center receives many calls looking for this service. Mr. Nam believes that this type of service not only helps save costs and time, but also creates a private space for the homeowner and the housekeeper.

Most hourly housekeepers have clear backgrounds, good cleaning skills and professional equipment, and are flexible in terms of time, so they are extremely popular.

Hourly maid wages will depend on the amount of work and time spent. Currently, the basic price is 60,000 - 80,000 VND/hour, depending on the area. Housekeeping for villas is around 100,000 - 200,000 VND/hour. Near and after Tet , many customers are willing to spend a lot of money, from 1 - 2 million VND/day to find a satisfactory maid.

"However, this form also has many disadvantages, such as the homeowner will have to do more housework, the nature of the worker is unstable, difficult to stick with and easy to change," emphasized a representative of Dai An Housekeeping Center.
