Housemaid threw away old woman's mattress containing more than 1.3 billion VND in the landfill

According to The Sun, the Italian woman, over 80 years old, kept 42,000 pounds (more than 1.3 billion VND) in cash and jewelry inside the mattress before the maid threw it away.

Hours later, when the mattress was already in the landfill, the woman from Montebelluna near the city of Treviso remembered she had hidden the item in it.

The woman called emergency services to retrieve it after "near suffering a heart attack", L'Unione Sarda reported.

Some Italian media outlets have suggested that the maid may have thrown away the mattress without informing her employer.

A police official told The Times that the woman “felt quite bewildered when she called for help, explaining that she had remembered the mattress was full of money only hours after it had been taken away”.

The police officer explained that the mattress would have been destroyed if it had not been discovered in time.

"She was so happy when we found it. It was like she aged ten years when she heard the news," he added.
