Colonel - People's Artist Duong Minh Duc has been the Head of the Vocal Music Department and Vice Principal of the Military University of Culture and Arts for many years. Therefore, the art program "Sounds of Aspiration" is a special reunion of him with his comrades and students, the artists-soldiers who have grown up from the military arts school. Teachers and students will join in the sound of aspiration, belief, love for life and people, contributing to enriching the spiritual life of cadres, soldiers and people.
“Sound of Aspiration” is the fifth art program of People's Artist Duong Minh Duc in his artistic career, an artist who has spent his entire life in the military uniform.

Duong Minh Duc was born in 1949, on the path of his parents' war against the French colonialists and in one of the fiercest battlefields, Binh Thuan- Ninh Thuan of Inter-zone 5, then grew up in the "soldier street" Ly Nam De of Hanoi. At the age of 15, Duong Minh Duc entered Nguyen Van Troi School for children of military officers and soldiers on the battlefield.
Duong Minh Duc's life was predestined from a young age, so that he would be attached to the military career, to the green uniform of a soldier. Instead of becoming a combat officer or military technician like his classmates had chosen, his military career was attached to art, as a singing soldier, a military artist. Until today, his son continued. His family has three generations wearing military uniforms, three generations following the military career and three generations being artist-soldiers.
As a military artist, Duong Minh Duc's stage is associated with trenches and battlefields across the country and his audience is soldiers. But few people know that the singing of Duong Minh Duc and his comrades such as People's Artist Ma Bich Viet... were the first singing voices of Uncle Ho's soldiers to resound in faraway Latin America, on the other side of the Western Hemisphere in the 70s of the last century. They were the ones who brought the singing of a country submerged in bullets and bombs of war, spreading the image of the resilient Vietnamese people, but very humane, full of humanity and friendship between nations.
In 1979, in the Vietnamese Youth Art Troupe that went to the former Soviet Union to attend the meeting between the youth of the two countries Vietnam and the Soviet Union, Duong Minh Duc completely captured the hearts of the young audience of the neighboring country when he sang the song "Ky Uc Kachiusa" by musician Thanh Truc with an emotional voice because he himself was a soldier who had experienced a time of war.
“ One afternoon in the old forest on the way to Bien Hoa/ The soldier wanted to hear the love song of Kachiusa/ I sang the song and I sang the song/ Carrying the passionate love of a distant poplar land ”. He recalled that every time he sang that song, the Russian audience would fall silent to listen to him sing and burst into long applause. Maybe they only understood the content through the introduction, but they understood the feelings of the singer and musician who had devoted themselves to the love song of the Soviet Union - of Russia.

In 1981, Duong Minh Duc was honored to be sent to the "Red Carnation" music competition in Sochi city, Russia. Among many art stars of 12 socialist countries at that time, the excellent singer of the Vietnam People's Army won the third prize of the competition with the song "Afternoon on the Port" by military musician Nguyen Duc Toan. A song that seemed to be reserved for singer Ngoc Tan - who performed very successfully at that time, but Duong Minh Duc proved his ability with his tenor voice with light, bright and soaring high notes, bringing his own creativity, full of persuasion, strongly conquering the international jury.
Few people know that Duong Minh Duc's starting point was the mechanical engineering industry when he passed the entrance exam to the Military Technical University in 1969. Until now, he still maintains his interests in engineering and is willing to roll his back and get dirty with oil to repair his old car. He shared: "I love cars, but the art of singing has always been with me and has become my passion."
While still a student at the Military Technical University, Duong Minh Duc participated in the Army Mass Performance and won first prize with two songs: "In each of our hearts there is Uncle Ho" by musician Trinh Nguyen Huan and "Hanoi, faith and hope" by musician Phan Nhan.
After graduating from the Military Technical University, Duong Minh Duc was retained at the school due to his excellent academic performance, but after a while, his passion for singing made him decide to change his career. The young officer registered for the entrance exam to the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (now the National Academy of Music) and was valedictorian.
Until now, I still think that perhaps music chose me. I myself am passionate and try my best, but I still secretly thank my father for showing me my career path. After two years of studying at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, I participated in the national professional singing competition and won a Gold Medal. In the same year, I continued to the Soviet Union to participate in the "Red Carnation" competition and won Third Prize.
People's Artist Duong Minh Duc.
Talking about Duong Minh Duc, experts and friends in the profession all have the same opinion: That is a beautiful, soaring, emotional, and conquering voice, and along with that is a very solid and modern foundation of artistic and vocal knowledge to perform and to be a teacher in the vocal music classroom.
That comment is not too much because many generations of students of People's Artist Duong Minh Duc later became successful, becoming excellent artists and singers such as: Luong Huy, Kasim Hoang Vu, Thanh Hao, Huong Mo, Vu Thang Loi, Duong Duc and People's Artist Hong Hanh - Colonel, Director of the current Army Music and Dance Theater.
In 2009, Duong Minh Duc celebrated his 60th birthday and his 40th birthday as a singer, marking the milestone of his four-night performance of his own art program in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho. I still remember that the fourth night of his grand performance at the Hanoi Opera House at that time became a rare phenomenon in the Vietnamese music and dance scene at that time due to the attention of his fans.
That series of performances was also the occasion for Duong Minh Duc to say goodbye to his management job as Vice Principal of the Military University of Culture and Arts because he had reached retirement age. However, he was still enthusiastically participating in artistic activities and teaching. In particular, this was also a time of sublimation with joint performances in the South and the North with his colleagues: Quang Tho, Quang Huy, Thanh Vinh, Minh Tuan... Perhaps age could not stop the labor of that artist-soldier, because as he confided, singing since his youth has been "always sacred like life, like the sun that never sets".

In 2024, when he turned 75, the artist-soldier, teacher of generations of students at the Military University of Culture and Arts was honored by the State with the noble title of People's Artist. In the art program "Sounds of Aspiration" on the evening of September 27, the audience and fans will meet People's Artist Duong Minh Duc again when he and his friends and students sing the sounds of life and songs that live forever through the years about soldiers.
