Google Maps gives wrong directions, Google still refuses to fix it

Despite being ranked as one of the most downloaded Google apps, a recent Google Maps glitch has left hundreds of travelers in an awkward situation.

Many people rely on Google Maps for navigation.

The problem is that many tourists in India are being led to the village of Nandalike instead of the famous Kollur Mookambika Temple. The reason for the confusion is that Google Maps has mislabeled a smaller temple in Nandalike, leading drivers to believe they are going to the right place.

Chandan, a tourist from Hyderabad, said in frustration, "We were travelling from Hyderabad to Udupi as per Google Maps directions, but ended up at Nandalike. This was a hassle, especially at night. This confusion caused a lot of inconvenience to us."

Hundreds of vehicles go wrong, Google still 'ignores'

Notably, a local resident said that “hundreds of vehicles” have been misdirected over the past three months, and several people have reported the issue to Google, although the company has yet to fix the bug. This is certainly an annoyance for users, especially for one of India’s most popular tourist destinations.

The incident also shows that, even though Google Maps has become a useful tool for finding directions, its accuracy needs to be improved to ensure the safety and convenience of users. Experts recommend that drivers pay attention to road signs and local information to avoid similar situations in the future.

On November 23, 2024, a particularly serious incident occurred in which three men in India died after falling into a river while driving on a collapsed bridge in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The report said that the cause of the accident was that the group of people followed directions on Google Maps and mistakenly drove onto a part of the bridge that had collapsed due to flooding that occurred in early 2024. While the locals knew the situation well and did not use it, the three victims were not informed because they came from a far away place, combined with the fact that the repaired section of the bridge had no barriers or signs, leading to the accident.
