According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, since the signing of the memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation in 2020, the exchange of tourists between Vietnam and Cambodia has made significant progress. In 2024 and the first six months of 2025, Cambodia is expected to welcome approximately 600,000 Vietnamese tourists, while Vietnam will also receive nearly 400,000 Cambodian tourists.
These figures demonstrate the growing demand for cross-border travel, particularly due to their close geographical proximity and cultural similarities. This is considered an important foundation for the two countries to continue leveraging their advantages and expanding new tourism products.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized that culture and heritage are the foundation for promoting the image of the country and creating lasting connections between the people of the two countries. He also expressed his hope that more concrete solutions would be found to increase the number of tourists, making bilateral tourism a highlight in economic and cultural cooperation.
On the Cambodian side, Minister Huot Hak affirmed that the potential for cooperation remains very great. He expressed his hope that Vietnam would support the organization of reciprocal tourism survey delegations so that both sides could learn from and share experiences in managing and exploiting tourism products.
In addition to continuing to implement existing agreements, both sides agreed to promote the signing of new cooperation documents, prioritizing road tourism to facilitate cross-border travel for tourists. In particular, the idea of organizing border events such as cross-country races and marathons was proposed to create a highlight for promotion and attract international tourists.

The two sides exchanged commemorative gifts to mark the occasion of the working session.
Earlier, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc also welcomed Minister Huot Hak, emphasizing that Ho Chi Minh City always plays an important role as a hub in cooperation with Cambodia, especially with the capital Phnom Penh. With the vision of becoming a "super city" and a regional economic and logistics center, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to make a strong contribution to bilateral tourism connectivity.
Tourism experts believe that, in addition to their strengths in cultural and heritage tourism, both Vietnam and Cambodia have advantages in river tourism, ecotourism, and resort tourism. Coordinating promotional efforts in international markets such as Europe, South Korea, and Japan will help increase attractiveness and create more appealing cross-border tourism packages.
