Google Maps upgrades display of directions on lock screen

Google is testing a "Live Updates" feature on Android that lets you view Google Maps directions even on the lock screen without opening the app.

Google is giving Maps a major upgrade with "Live Updates."

This is the answer to the “Live Activities” that iPhone users love.

This feature allows you to display directions right on your Android lock screen.

Users can view directions via a compact icon on the status bar.

Additionally, the lock screen will have a notification card showing route details and estimated time of arrival (ETA).

The advantage is that users can navigate while using other applications.

Some Pixel and Samsung users are already testing the new feature.

Google is expected to release it widely in December during Pixel Feature Drop.
