Google has unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold, priced from $1,799. Pre-orders begin today, with shipping scheduled for next month. According to Google, this is the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market, using a dual battery pack and slim camera lenses to achieve its desired size. When unfolded, it reveals a 7.6-inch screen.

The device measures 139.7 x 79.5 x 12.1mm when closed and 139.7 x 158.7 x 5.8mm when unfolded, weighing 283g. It is water-resistant to IPX8. The external display is a 5.8-inch (1080x2092) 17.4:9 aspect ratio 120Hz OLED screen with Gorilla Glass Victus protection and a maximum brightness of 1550 nits. Inside is a 7.6-inch 6:5 aspect ratio screen with a resolution of 2208x1840 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, Ultra Thin Glass protection, and a maximum brightness of 1450 nits.

The Pixel Fold uses the Google Tensor G2 chip and Titan M2 security processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256 or 512GB of storage. It has three cameras on the back: a 48MP f/1.7 main camera, a 10.8MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera, and a 10.8MP f/3.05 5x optical zoom camera. The outer screen has a 9.5MP f/2.2 fixed-focus camera. The inner screen also has an 8MP f/2.0 camera.

The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power button, it supports 2 SIMs (1 physical SIM and 1 eSIM), has stereo speakers, a 4,821mAh battery, a 30W USB-C charger sold separately, and runs Android 13.

Google developed a Tabletop mode specifically for the Pixel Fold, allowing users to utilize the camera array when the phone is placed on a table. Additionally, there's a selfie mode for taking self-portraits using the external camera.

Meanwhile, Google Translate will provide live translation between two people and use two screens to display the translation. In the demo video , the new YouTube interface will change when the screen is folded 90 degrees, with controls on the bottom screen and the video on the top screen.

The Pixel Fold will directly compete with Samsung's foldable smartphones and join the battle alongside Oppo, Xiaomi, and Huawei. With its Split View feature, users can use multiple apps simultaneously.

Google Pixel Tablet

Google also introduced a new tablet, the Pixel Tablet. It comes with a dock. The device features a 10.95-inch 2560x1600 pixel LCD screen with 500 nits of brightness, anti-glare properties, and supports the USI 2.0 stylus. Inside are a Google Tensor G2 chip, a Titan M2 security chip, 8GB of RAM, and 128/256GB of storage.

The tablet uses two cameras, front and rear, both with 8MP resolution. A fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power button, and the battery can last up to 12 hours while watching videos. The device runs Android 13.

The Pixel Tablet is priced at $499 in the US, available for pre-order starting today, and will officially go on sale on June 20th.

Google Pixel 7a

Like other Pixel A models, the Pixel 7a is Google's budget smartphone, borrowing many design elements from the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. It will replace the Pixel 6a and use Google's proprietary Tensor chipset.

The Pixel 7a uses a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, similar to the Pixel 7, protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It is water and dust resistant to IP67 standards, and features a metal frame and plastic back. Google notes that they used recycled aluminum, glass, and plastic materials for this phone.

Another upgrade for the Pixel 7a is the Tensor G2 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM (instead of 6GB like the Pixel 6a) and 128GB of storage. This is the same configuration as the Pixel 7. Google promises 5 years of security updates.

On the back is a 64MP Super Res Zoom camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera. The front camera has a 13MP resolution. The phone supports dual SIMs (1 physical SIM and 1 eSIM). Additionally, it has a 4,385mAh battery.
