Our first impression upon arriving in Khe Tre was not only the lush green of the orchards and rolling hills covered with fruit trees, but also the cleanliness and tidiness of every road and alleyway. Along both sides of the road, rows of vibrant red bougainvillea, portulaca, and other flowering plants stretched endlessly, meticulously trimmed and maintained, creating a fresh and vibrant look for this mountainous countryside.
While watering the flowers in front of her house, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a member of the Women's Association in Da Phu village, shared: "Taking care of flowers to beautify the house and the neighborhood is also a way to contribute to environmental protection. When women launched the movement, all of us actively participated, both beautifying the landscape and setting an example for our children and grandchildren to be mindful of maintaining a clean living environment."
In Thanh An village, many flower-lined streets are also displaying their vibrant colors. In front of houses, trellises of bougainvillea and other flowering plants, along with neatly trimmed trees, create a more airy and pleasant atmosphere. These green, clean, and beautiful streets are the result of the persistent efforts and contributions of local officials and women's association members.
Ms. Vo Thi Lan, a member of the Women's Association in Thanh An village, said: "Responding to the movement of the Women's Association, families not only plant and care for flowers in front of their houses but also actively carry out many practical actions to protect the environment, such as: sorting waste at source, limiting the use of single-use plastic products, and collecting recyclable materials to raise funds for the branch association."
Every year, the Women's Union of Khe Tre commune focuses on implementing the "3 clean" criteria, linked to criterion number 17 on the environment in the National Target Program for building new rural areas and civilized urban areas. The branches have registered to carry out many practical projects and tasks, contributing to the local area's completion of the new rural development criteria. Notable among these is the regular maintenance of general environmental sanitation in village roads and alleys every Saturday and Sunday, such as organizing waste collection and sorting in residential areas; collecting pesticide packaging in the fields; and building and maintaining self-managed flower-lined roads.
The association promotes the campaign to build "5 no's, 3 clean" families, contributing to improving the quality of life for female members and local people. Through meetings, more than 3,000 female cadres and members have been informed and educated on topics related to building civilized families, maintaining environmental hygiene, and developing a green lifestyle.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Khe Tre commune, said: From planting and caring for flower-lined roads, maintaining cleanliness in villages and alleys, to sorting waste at source and reducing plastic waste, all are regularly carried out by women, creating good habits in the community. The Women's Union of Khe Tre commune will continue to expand "green living" models, encourage female members to maintain flower-lined roads, and build more environmental protection models, contributing to building Khe Tre into an increasingly bright, green, clean, and beautiful place.
