Greenwood shines in Ligue 1. |
In the early morning of May 18, the former MU striker scored a double in Marseille's 4-2 victory over Rennes in round 34 of Ligue 1. With these two goals, Greenwood surpassed the scoring record of former player Didier Drogba in his first season at Marseille.
Greenwood has 21 goals, surpassing Drogba (19). In between the two is striker Bafetimbi Gomis (20 goals). This achievement makes Greenwood the player who scored the most goals for Marseille in his debut season in the 21st century.
Greenwood is not the club’s most impressive debutant. That feat belongs to Alen Boksic, who scored 22 goals in the 1992/93 season.
With 21 goals, Greenwood should have shared the Ligue 1 top scorer title with PSG's Ousmane Dembele (also 21 goals). However, according to the tournament's regulations, Dembele will receive the top scorer title because he only scored 1 goal from the penalty spot, while Greenwood had 7 successful 11-meter kicks.
After a stellar season, Greenwood has attracted the attention of several top European clubs, including Barcelona. Despite receiving lucrative offers, the young striker insists he will remain with Marseille and is looking forward to the upcoming Champions League campaign, after his side finished second in the league, behind PSG.
Greenwood shared that playing in the Champions League is a great opportunity for him to develop his career and contribute to the team. With a thirst for victory and unwavering determination, Greenwood promises to shine even more in the coming seasons in Ligue 1.
The squad revived their careers after leaving Man Utd De Gea, Greenwood and Scott McTominay are all in good form after leaving the "Theatre of Dreams".
