Sharing with VietNamNet , Dr. Nguyen Viet Khuyen, Vice President of the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges, said that Professor Lam Quang Thiep (born in 1939, from Quang Nam ) passed away at around 9:00 p.m. on October 13 at the hospital due to old age and poor health, at the age of 86.
Dr. Khuyen said that Professor Lam Quang Thiep has been hospitalized for about 6 months now, and his health has been extremely weak for the past 2 months.
Mr. Khuyen shared his deep regret when hearing the news, because Professor Lam Quang Thiep was not only a university teacher but also had a period of time as the head of the Geography - Physics department where he taught at the Physics Faculty of Hanoi National University. Later, when Professor Lam Quang Thiep was appointed as the Director of the Department of Higher Education , Ministry of Education and Training; Mr. Khuyen also had a period of time as his deputy. "That's why we are very close to each other," Dr. Khuyen shared.

Professor Lam Quang Thiep held the position of Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training from 1988 to 1997.
According to Mr. Khuyen, it can be said that Professor Lam Quang Thiep was an effective advisor and assistant to the late Professor Tran Hong Quan (former Minister of Education and Training) in implementing university education innovation in the period of 1988.
“Professor Thiep was a key advisor for innovation policies in university education at that time,” Dr. Khuyen shared.
After retiring from management, Professor Lam Quang Thiep returned to work at the University of Education - Hanoi National University. Recently, he continued to be an advisor to the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges.
“Professor Thiep was very enthusiastic with his friends, colleagues, students and also in his professional work. He was a very modest person. His passing makes us extremely sad,” Dr. Khuyen shared.
