One month ago, Hugo Calderano shocked the world of table tennis when he defeated a series of Chinese players to win the Table Tennis World Cup in Macau (China).

That's why Calderano's journey in the men's singles at the 2025 World Table Tennis Championships in Qatar has attracted a lot of attention.

On the way to the final, Hugo Calderano continued to make Chinese table tennis feel nervous when he eliminated No. 5 seed Liang Jingkun (who made No. 1 seed Lin Shidong leave the tournament in the quarterfinals).

However, Calderano could not repeat his achievement at the Table Tennis World Cup when he was defeated quickly in the final.

Calderano's opponent in the final match of the men's singles is Wang Chuqin (seed number 2). At the World Table Tennis Cup last month, Wang Chuqin was Calderano's loser.

But in this rematch, everything changed. Learning from the above defeat, Wang Chuqin played proactively, dominating and making Calderano defend very hard.

Wang Chuqin took an early advantage in the final when he beat Calderano in the first two games with scores of 12-10 and 11-3. In particular, Wang Chuqin dominated Calderano almost completely in game 2 and created a victory with a large margin.

All Calderano could muster in this match was an impressive outburst in game three.

The Brazilian player defeated Wang Chuqin 11-4 to reduce the score to 1-2. But this overwhelming victory did not make Calderano more excited or confident. On the contrary, it made Wang Chuqin play with absolute concentration.

In the next two games, the Chinese player played almost perfectly and won 11-2, 11-7 to close the final match with a final score of 4-1.

Wang Chuqin's victory helps Chinese table tennis extend its dominance in the men's singles at the World Table Tennis Championships.

Since 2005, Chinese players have shared the men's singles title at the World Table Tennis Championships. The last player to break the Chinese dominance was Werner Schlager (Austria) - with the men's singles title at the 2003 World Table Tennis Championships in Paris.
