Ha Giang and Hoi An continue to affirm their position on the world tourism map when they were honored in the list of the most beautiful destinations in the world announced by Time Out magazine in April 2025. Specifically, Ha Giang ranked 10th and Hoi An ranked 44th in this list, based on the votes of the magazine's global travel writer network.
Ha Giang , located in the far north of Vietnam, is famous for its spectacular mountain passes such as Ma Pi Leng Pass, where visitors can admire the green Nho Que River winding between rocky mountains. This area also owns Dong Van Karst Plateau - a UNESCO-recognized global geopark, with unique limestone mountain landscapes and diverse ecosystems. In addition, Ha Giang is also home to many ethnic minorities with rich cultural identities, providing visitors with unique cultural experiences.
Commenting on Ha Giang, Time Out highly appreciated the winding mountain passes such as Tham Ma slope winding through 6 consecutive bends or the "king of the mountain passes" Ma Pi Leng overlooking Nho Que river. The writer from the British magazine was especially impressed with the majestic scenery of La Si (Ngam La commune) with its peaceful scenery and majestic mountains.
According to Grace Beard, travel editor of Time Out magazine, it took thousands of years of hard work for people to exploit and grow rice here as they do today. She suggests visiting La Si in April, May or September, October to avoid the crowds (January to March), rain (June to August) and cold (November to March).
Hoi An is at the bottom of Time Out’s list of the world’s most beautiful places. It is described as an ancient city in central Vietnam, with streets lined with silk lanterns that sway outside restaurants and adorn the yellow walls of the old town.
The joy of living in this quaint little town is spending the mornings sipping coffee and the afternoons cycling through the peaceful rice fields. Admiring the brightly lit lanterns, floating lanterns on the Hoai River, leisurely cycling through the ancient town, or relaxing on the charming pristine beaches.
