On Saturday morning, students of Viet Long Primary School, Da Phuc Commune ( Hanoi ) still went to school to make up for the previous days off.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thao, Principal of Viet Long Primary School (Da Phuc Commune), said that when there was news of flooding, the school switched to online learning for 3 days. However, many houses were flooded, had power outages, and students had no internet access to study. When the water receded, the school switched to in-person learning but still asked parents to bring their children to school only when the road was safe.
“The whole school has 828 students, but on the day of the peak flooding, only about 500 students went to school. Today, the whole school was absent 100 students because the road to school was still flooded,” said Mr. Thao.
According to the authorities of Trung Gia and Da Phuc communes, in recent days, most schools in the area have been flooded, with prolonged power outages, and students have not been able to study online. To date, 16 schools in these two communes are still flooded.
Mr. Le Huu Manh, Secretary of Trung Gia Commune, said that at one point, the entire commune had up to 18 villages heavily flooded, many areas were isolated and had to mobilize military vehicles and boats to reach the people to support and supply necessities.

Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that in addition to the two communes of Trung Gia and Da Phuc that are being affected by rain and flooding, the locality still has Tay Mo Primary School where students have not been able to go to school for 10 days. The flood water has not receded yet, and the local authorities are making efforts to clear the flow and pump to clean the classrooms and welcome students back to school.
After the launching ceremony to support students in flooded areas, on October 11, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training donated 40 tons of goods including essential items such as blankets, milk, rice, water, cooking oil, books, instant noodles, cakes, dry food... to people and students in Da Phuc and Trung Gia communes.

Leaders of the Department of Education and Training encouraged teachers and students of schools to overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives and studies.
