Many students in the class said that their homes were severely flooded and they had to stay with relatives.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thao, Principal of Viet Long Primary School (Da Phuc commune), said that upon receiving information about flooding, the school switched to online learning for three days. However, many houses were flooded, power was out, and students did not have internet access to study. When the water receded, the school switched back to in-person learning but still requested parents to only bring their children to school when the roads were safe.

"The school has 828 students in total, but on days with heavy rain and flooding, only about 500 students came to school. Today, 100 students are still absent because the road to school is still flooded," said Mr. Thao.

Due to flooding, people in Hanoi have to use boats to get around.

According to the authorities of Trung Gia and Da Phuc communes, in recent days, most schools in the area have been flooded and experienced prolonged power outages, preventing students from attending online classes. To date, 16 schools in these two communes remain flooded.

According to Mr. Le Huu Manh, Secretary of Trung Gia commune, at one point, up to 18 villages in the commune were severely flooded, with many areas cut off. Military vehicles and boats had to be mobilized to reach the people and provide assistance and essential supplies.

According to Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in addition to the two communes of Trung Gia and Da Phuc currently affected by rain and flooding, Tay Mo Primary School is still closed for 10 days, with students unable to attend. The floodwaters have not yet receded, and local authorities are making efforts to clear the waterways and use pumps to clean the school premises and prepare for students' return.

Following the launch of the campaign to support students in flood-affected areas, on October 11th, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training donated 40 tons of goods including essential items such as blankets, milk, rice, water, cooking oil, books, instant noodles, biscuits, and dried food to the people and students of Da Phuc and Trung Gia communes.
