The special feature of this set of miniatures is that artist Ngoc Linh directly painted with oil paint on the surface of the lottery tickets printed on silk paper left over at the end of the day. The works have 2 sizes of 7 x 10cm and 10 x 14cm (2 sheets combined) and artist Ngoc Linh bound them into a small sketchbook that fits in the palm of your hand. With a mini bike and a cute drawing set, the artist has traveled and painted familiar little corners of Hanoi.

Artist Ngoc Linh came to the path of fine arts by chance, as if by fate. During a trip to Thai Nguyen , he met artist Tran Van Can who was painting and learned that there was a resistance art class enrolling students, personally taught by artist To Ngoc Van (1950-1954), he was determined to study.

Talking about her love for Hanoi, artist Ngoc Linh shared: “Hanoi is a place I am attached to and love, I am very afraid of losing all the old streets of Hanoi. If I do not paint, future generations, Vietnamese people living abroad will not know how beautiful Hanoi used to be. Mr. Phai (famous artist Bui Xuan Phai) paints nostalgic old streets, but I choose a pure, beautiful, fresh Hanoi. Now that I am still healthy, I must continue to paint, and Hanoi will always be an endless source of creative inspiration for me.”

In nearly 140 paintings, looking back, there are most of the landmarks of Hanoi. Those are the relics of Thang Long - Hanoi with Tran Quoc Pagoda, Quan Su Pagoda, Quan Thanh Temple, Voi Phuc Temple, Cau Nhi Temple next to the boat house of West Lake... Those are the tiled roofs in Phat Loc alley, the majestic architecture of the Indochina period with the Great Church, Cua Bac Church... Those are the poetic corners around the lake such as Ngoc Son Temple, But Tower, The Huc Bridge... Even the rows of trees that contribute to the beauty of Hanoi such as the nine-rooted Indian laurel tree leaning over a corner of Hoan Kiem Lake, the banyan tree on Thuy Khue street, the milk flower tree on Thien Quang lake...

Artist Ngoc Linh was born on October 30, 1930, his real name is Vi Van Bich, the grandson of Vi Van Dinh - Governor of Ha Dong (old), belonging to the generation of resistance artists. At the age of 16, the young man Vi Van Bich packed his bags and followed his father to ATK (Thai Nguyen), following President Ho Chi Minh 's call for national resistance. Since joining the Revolution, he did not use his real name Vi Van Bich, but took the pseudonym Ngoc Linh. Later, he signed his works, also keeping the name Ngoc Linh.
