Phu Tho: Two of the seven students who were swimming in a branch of the Red River in Ha Hoa district drowned; their bodies were found on the evening of March 25.
At around 4 PM, a group of 8th-grade male students from Van Lang commune, Ha Hoa district, went to Ngoi Lao (a branch of the Red River) in Bang Gia commune, about 3 km from their homes, to swim.

While swimming about 10 meters from the riverbank, two students suddenly fell into a deep hole, approximately 3-5 meters deep, and disappeared. The remaining five students panicked and rushed to shore, shouting for help from local residents. At 6 PM the same day, the bodies of the two male students were found.
The Lao stream – the section where the incident occurred – is about 50 meters wide, with the stream bed sloping gradually deeper towards the middle. According to the leaders of Bang Gia commune, this group of students often went swimming there recently when it was hot and they had school off.
Northern Vietnam is transitioning from cold to hot weather. For the past few days, midday temperatures have fluctuated between 29 and 33 degrees Celsius, prompting many people to go swimming in rivers and lakes.
