On the afternoon of December 18th, the People's Committee of Hai Phong City commenced the construction project of Nguyen Trai Bridge and urban beautification of the surrounding area. This is one of the city's key projects for 2024.

Nguyen Trai Bridge is the city's sixth bridge crossing the Cam River (after Kien Bridge, Binh Bridge, Hoang Van Thu Bridge, May Chai Bridge, and Bach Dang Bridge) and the fourth bridge leading to the new North Cam River urban area.

The Nguyen Trai Bridge project is a Group A project, a special-grade transportation project, with a total investment of over 6,200 billion VND, including over 4,200 billion VND for construction and over 2,000 billion VND for land clearance.

The area to be cleared for the construction of the bridge and access roads is over 21 hectares, in addition to the acquisition of an adjacent area of over 43 hectares for urban renovation.

The Nguyen Trai Bridge has four lanes for motor vehicles and is designed as a cable-stayed bridge. The bridge section is nearly 1,500 meters long, with the central span being 300 meters wide, the widest of any bridge in Hai Phong. The two 111-meter-high towers form two sails reaching out to sea, symbolizing Hai Phong's aspiration to "reach out to the open ocean."

The interchange connecting to Le Thanh Tong Street features modern architecture; Nguyen Trai Street is being widened from 18 m to 50.5 m, connecting with Le Hong Phong Street and Cat Bi International Airport.

When completed and put into use, the Nguyen Trai Bridge will help build a connecting axis between the existing urban area and the new urban area north of the Cam River and industrial zones such as VSIP Industrial Park, Tam Hung - Ngu Lao Industrial Park, Thuy Nguyen Industrial Park, etc.

At the same time, the project contributes to linking Cat Bi International Airport with the northern development hub of the city in the area north of the Cam River, effectively meeting the needs of production and business development of enterprises, promoting socio -economic development of Thuy Nguyen city in particular and Hai Phong city in general, as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of neighboring provinces and cities.

This facilitates FDI attraction through connections with Hai Phong International Gateway Port, Cat Bi International Airport, the Hanoi -Hai Phong Expressway, National Highway 10, National Highway 18, etc.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung said that in recent years, Hai Phong has been focusing intensely on investing in expanding its urban space to the north of the Cam River. In 2017, the city commenced the project to invest in the construction of technical infrastructure for the new urban area north of the Cam River, covering an area of over 324 hectares, including the construction of the Hoang Van Thu bridge across the Cam River.

Subsequently, the city invested in the construction of the City Political-Administrative Center and the City Conference-Performance Center in the aforementioned area. It is expected that in May 2025, the City Party Committee, the City People's Council, the City People's Committee, and other city agencies will move to the North Song Cam Political-Administrative Center to conduct their work.

In particular, on October 24, 2024, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly passed Resolution No. 1232 on the establishment of Thuy Nguyen City under the jurisdiction of Hai Phong City. Therefore, traffic across the Cam River will increase dramatically in the near future.

Currently, only the Binh Bridge and the Hoang Van Thu Bridge exist, which cannot meet the traffic demands. To ensure more convenient and smooth travel across the Cam River, Hai Phong has decided to invest in the construction of the Nguyen Trai Bridge.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City requested that the construction contractors focus their human and material resources on building the project, ensuring both technical and aesthetic quality, and guaranteeing absolute labor safety. The goal is to complete the project in 2027.

At the same time, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City requested the city's departments, agencies, and Ngo Quyen district to create the best conditions and immediately resolve any difficulties and obstacles arising during the construction process, especially ensuring security and order during construction.
