The Naval Command (Hai Phong City) has just organized a scientific seminar with the theme: "Vietnam People's Navy promotes heroic traditions, firmly protects the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland".
The workshop was organized by the Navy in coordination with the Vietnam Institute of Defense Strategy and History ( Ministry of National Defense ); it is an important event in a series of activities towards the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Navy (VPA) (May 7, 1955 - May 7, 2025).
Attending, directing and participating in the Presidium of the workshop were comrades: Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Commander of the Navy; Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Bong, Secretary of the Party Committee, Political Commissar of the Navy; Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, Doctor Vu Cuong Quyet, Director of the Institute of Strategy and History of Vietnam National Defense; Colonel Nguyen Van Bach, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of the Navy; Rear Admiral Do Van Yen, Deputy Political Commissar of the Navy.
Attending the workshop were: leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ; former heads of the Navy Command; Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, historical witnesses; delegates from provinces and cities; scientists and representatives of agencies and units inside and outside the Army and Service.
The workshop aims to continue affirming the position, role, leadership and direction of the Party, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense; objectively and comprehensively assess the process of building, fighting and developing the Navy; clarify the position and importance of the Navy in the process of building, fighting and developing the Army as well as the revolutionary cause of our Party and People; and draw lessons for the cause of building and protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
70 years ago, on May 7, 1955, the Ministry of National Defense - Commander-in-Chief issued Decision No. 284/ND-A to establish the Coastal Defense Department under the Ministry of National Defense. Comrade Nguyen Ba Phat was appointed Director of the Department.
The Coastal Defense Department is responsible for assisting the General Command in directing coastal defense troops through the heads of military regions; training sailors and staff; producing water tools and equipment; building coastal defense fleets and then handing them over to the inter-regions.
The establishment of the Coastal Defense Department opened the period of construction, combat and development of the Vietnam People's Navy through the ages.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Bong emphasized: The workshop is a practical activity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Navy's traditional day, an opportunity to show gratitude and commemorate compatriots and comrades who fought and sacrificed heroically in the fight to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
This is also an opportunity for officers and soldiers of the Navy to review the heroic and heroic fighting tradition of previous generations; contribute to fostering patriotism, love for socialism, national pride, the will for independence, self-reliance, self-reliance and the desire for peace; consolidate and strengthen absolute confidence in the Party's leadership in the new period.
Through this workshop, we will have a deeper and more complete understanding of the historical significance and lessons learned to apply to the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland in the period of integration and development.
Speaking at the workshop, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam requested to clarify five basic issues: Theoretical and practical basis to deepen the correctness, revolution, and science in planning the Party's policies and strategic decisions, headed by President Ho Chi Minh, directly by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense for the process of building, fighting, winning, maturing, and advancing straight to modernity of the Vietnam People's Navy.
Analyze and clarify the development of the Vietnam People's Navy through revolutionary stages, including 8 outstanding feats of arms; the contributions of Navy soldiers in the war of liberation, protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland, performing international tasks, international military cooperation and defense diplomacy according to assigned functions and tasks.
Proposing contents and solutions for the Navy to effectively carry out two strategic tasks: building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern Navy and firmly protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands in the era of national development...
The conference organizing committee received more than 70 presentations from leaders and former leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, chief of the General Staff, chief of the General Department of Politics; leaders of central departments, ministries, branches, provinces and cities; chief of the Navy Command and agencies and units under the Navy; heads of military regions, army corps, military services, arms, academies, schools, research institutes, historical witnesses, scientists inside and outside the Army, etc.
Each paper is an independent research work, focusing on discussing specific issues, but all focus on clarifying the process of birth, building, fighting, maturing and victory of the Vietnam People's Navy in the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland.
The summary of the speech at the workshop by Lieutenant General Vu Cuong Quyet affirmed: As an important part, forming the strength of the Vietnam People's Army, after 70 years of building, fighting and growing, under the leadership of the Party, directly and regularly by the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, the Vietnam People's Navy has rapidly matured and grown stronger.
From a small force and base at the beginning, the Navy has now become a military branch with full force components, many means of ships, modern weapons and equipment, achieved many glorious feats, wrote the tradition of "Fighting bravely, being creative and resourceful, mastering the sea, determined to fight and win", contributing worthily to the victory of the national liberation struggle, fulfilling international duties and the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
