The Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) continue their air campaign, destroying Ukraine’s military infrastructure deep in the country’s western territory. This evening and this morning, Ukrainian social media reported that a Russian missile attack on an air base in the city of Dubno in the Rivne region has attracted special attention. Ukraine's Deep State channel reported that at around 6:00 (Kiev time), information appeared on Ukrainian citizens' air defense software about an air strike warning; a Russian MiG-31K took off. This is a type of aircraft that launches Kinzhal hypersonic missiles of the Russian Air Force.
Then there was information about the launch of Kinzhal missiles in the direction of Rivne; and just a few minutes later, there were reports of explosions in Dubno. Witnesses observed a large fire at the airbase in the city of Dubno, following the attack by the RFAF's Kinzhal missiles. According to information from pro-Russian underground forces, a second attack was also carried out on the air base in Dubno, this time again with Kinzhal missiles. Although the sources did not say exactly which target was attacked at this military base, it is likely that a Western military transport plane carrying weapons and aid landed there. At the same time, there is information that a large traffic jam has formed at the exit from Dubno. Ukrainian police are checking all cars and checking people's smartphones, looking for connections to Russia. Whether this can be called a “retaliatory strike” or not remains to be seen, but after the attack by FPV UAVs of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on the airfields of the Russian Aerospace Forces on June 1, the RFAF launched a fierce attack on targets on the territory of Ukraine, controlled by Kiev. Russia's Rybar channel reported that high-intensity RFAF attacks on the city of Ternopil were carried out for the second night in a row. Ternopil is located in western Ukraine, where RFAF attacks are rare; as a result, locals posted videos of explosions and fires online, expressing fear as the war continues to spread.
On the night of June 5 and early morning of June 6, Russian Aerospace Forces Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers attacked enterprises mobilized for Ukrainian defense production in Ternopil with at least five Kh-101 cruise missiles, Military Review reported. Footage of the explosion and intense fire was later filmed by residents of the city. In particular, the TM Penoboard factory on Mykulinetskaya Street in Ternopil was severely hit by RFAF missiles. One of the explosions after the missile attack looked like the mushroom shape of a small nuclear bomb explosion. The Penoboard TM enterprise, which was actively involved in defense production with the Ukrainian army, under secret contracts and had a number of large orders, paid for by foreign companies. Judging by the information received through surveillance channels, the production plants were destroyed. Ternopil firefighters worked to extinguish the fire until morning. However, judging by photos released by the Ternopil State Emergency Service, there was little left of the workshops and hangars. One of the hangars continued to burn as of June 7.
And now, details of the horrific explosion at the TM Penoboard enterprise, which is said to be engaged in the production of polymer insulation panels in the city of Ternopil, have emerged on social media. Russian Telegram channels claim that an underground bunker containing a large number of foreign-origin missiles was destroyed in Ternopil. The coordinator of the Mykolaiv underground forces, Sergey Lebedev, said that after the attacks of the Russian Aerospace Forces, the Ukrainian army lost 56 Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG missiles provided by the UK and France; 32 missiles for the Patriot air defense system and 53 ATACMS and HIMARS missiles. According to some unconfirmed information, the entire batch of weapons arrived in Ukraine five days ago. Of course, the exact number of weapons destroyed is still a bit vague. But judging by the powerful explosions with continuous bangs and the scale of the fire at the Penoboard TM enterprise in Ternopil, the airstrikes were very successful. It is worth noting that Russian intelligence detected a “big fish” and reported it in time to attack. And the long-range strike forces of the Russian army did a great job; it is possible that this action by the RFAF was in response to attacks on Russian military airports by FPV UAVs of the Ukrainian Security Service.
