The South Korean government will invest a total of 484 billion won (about 350 million USD) by 2032 to develop inorganic light-emitting diode (iLED) display technology, aiming to find new growth drivers for the domestic display industry, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on July 15.
The investment will be channeled into the development of iLED technologies, including micro LEDs, quantum dots and nano LEDs, as well as the development of the domestic industrial ecosystem, according to a VNA correspondent in Seoul, citing information from the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Considered the next generation display technology, iLED has higher lifespan, brightness and power efficiency than current organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea, the country still leads the world in the OLED market but lags behind in iLED technology, relying heavily on foreign-made LED chips and iLED display materials.
The global iLED market is expected to grow to $32 billion by 2035 from $1 billion in 2026./.
