Dreame Technology, a popular Chinese robot vacuum cleaner brand, is actively recruiting drone experts amid fierce competition from tech startups. This is seen as a move to directly "confront" DJI, the "giant" dominating the global drone market.
According to postings on recruitment platform Boss Zhipin , Dreame is looking to fill at least 10 drone-related positions, including algorithm engineers, test pilots, operations sales managers, and business managers for the aviation industry.
The positions will be based at Dreame’s headquarters in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, or in Shenzhen, China’s drone hub. Shenzhen is also home to a vast supply chain that supports DJI and other companies.
Dreame has recruited talent from DJI and food delivery giant Meituan, according to Sina news portal. Meituan has been developing drone delivery services since 2017 and used them to deliver more than 200,000 orders in 2024, nearly double the previous year.
Dreame has yet to comment on this information.

China’s drone industry is attracting a number of startups thanks to government policies to develop it. Drone brand Antigravity, incubated by action camera maker Insta360, has also launched its first product: the A1, a civilian drone equipped with an 8K 360-degree camera and aviator goggles.
While DJI maintains its position as the world's largest supplier of civilian drones with around 70% market share, rapid advancements in related technologies have enabled other hardware manufacturers to introduce their own products.
Dreame founder Yu Hao is an alumnus of the prestigious Tsinghua University, where he studied aerospace engineering and founded the student association Skyworks, which specializes in aircraft research.
Dreame’s expansion appears to be a response to DJI’s recent move into its core market. Earlier this month, DJI launched the Romo, its first robot vacuum with drone-level obstacle avoidance.
Worldwide robot vacuum cleaner sales reached 5.1 million units in the first quarter, up 12 percent from the same period last year, according to market research firm IDC . China's Roborock leads the market with a 19 percent global share, while Dreame comes in third with an 11 percent share.
