Android smartphone maker copies Apple again

After Apple introduced the Liquid Glass design on iOS 26, Vivo became the first Android company to introduce the OriginOS 6 interface inspired by this style.

After Apple introduced the Liquid Glass design language on iOS 26 at WWDC 2025, several Android manufacturers have started to adopt the same style. Vivo was the first brand to announce a new interface inspired by this design.

At its recent launch event, Vivo introduced OriginOS 6, a new custom interface based on Android 16. The interface has many similarities with Apple's Liquid Glass, including transparent UI elements, circular icons, iOS 26-style lock screen clock, and dynamic wallpapers that can switch between 2D and 3D.

The Chinese tech company also emphasizes smoother motion effects to give a “watery” feel, a defining feature of Liquid Glass.

Not only Vivo, the Android community in general is starting to show interest in this design style. On the Google Play Store, many icon packs and themes inspired by Liquid Glass have appeared, while the Nothing user community is also discussing the possibility of the company adding a similar interface in an upcoming update.

Liquid Glass is a bold design move by Apple, seen as a continuation of the skeuomorphic style, which mimics real-life objects. However, this return to the technology world is divided. Some praise the new interface for its more luxurious feel and depth, while others say Apple is going against the minimalist trend that has defined recent versions of iOS.

Despite the controversy, Apple’s influence on smartphone design is still evident. When the iPhone X launched with its signature “rabbit ear” notch, a series of Android manufacturers quickly copied this detail. Similarly, the Dynamic Island feature on the iPhone 14 Pro was also simulated by Android developers just a few weeks later.

With Liquid Glass, a similar trend is repeating itself. The spread of this interface style shows that Android manufacturers are still regularly “inspired” by the aesthetic changes initiated by Apple, especially in large markets like China and India.

However, Android users still have the advantage of being able to customize freely. Even if the device does not receive an official update, users can still download third-party apps or themes to recreate the transparent glass effect, floating icons and Liquid Glass-style animations.
