Hundreds of tons of water hyacinth, coconuts, plastic items... from river mouths flowed into Bai Truoc beach along the ocean currents, forming a thick layer that stretched for many kilometers.
On June 15, natural garbage, mainly water hyacinth, washed up on the beaches along Quang Trung, Tran Phu, and Ha Long streets, with the most water hyacinth floating in layers, with the most at Bai Truoc Strait with a layer of water hyacinth 15-20 cm thick, stretching about 20 meters from shore. Under the sea edge, water hyacinth roots and floating garbage made the water turbid.

Mr. Cao Thanh Qua, 60 years old, who goes to the beach every day to swim, said that water hyacinth appears on this beach every year, but this is the first time he has seen such a large amount. "The huge amount of garbage that has washed up in the past two days has made the beach look ugly and messy, but that has not stopped me from swimming in the sea," Mr. Qua said, adding that he chose to swim far from shore, where the water is clear, to swim.
Down by the beach near the shore, many people (mostly locals) still bathe. Most of them say the seawater has no smell and bathing does not cause itching or skin rashes.
A representative of Vung Tau City authorities said that after the first heavy rains of the season, water hyacinth and garbage from river mouths in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai ... followed the ocean currents to the beach from May until now. The affected area is about 10 km from Tran Phu, Quang Trung and Ha Long streets. Every day, the force collects about 15 - 20 tons of garbage. After cleaning up in the morning, in the afternoon when the tide rises, the beach is flooded with water hyacinth again.

In the past few days, the amount of water hyacinth has increased dramatically compared to previous years, estimated at hundreds of tons. Authorities have mobilized 30 people, cranes, excavators, and garbage compactors to clear the trash in the Bai Truoc area. "Tomorrow we plan to mobilize 100 people to clean up the beach in the next two to three days," said a commander of the beach's trash cleanup.
The situation of garbage and water hyacinth washing up on the beaches in Vung Tau City often occurs at the beginning of the rainy season at Bai Truoc, Bai Dau, and Bai Dua. In October, garbage appears at Bai Sau when the wind changes to the Northeast.
