Earlier, on October 21, a 20-vehicle convoy of the Egyptian Red Crescent entered the Gaza Strip. Rafah is the only border crossing into Gaza not controlled by Israel. But airstrikes damaged roads and prevented trucks from carrying aid.
The United Nations estimates that 100 trucks of supplies are needed every day to meet the needs of Gaza's people.
The World Health Organization said it is working closely with the Egyptian authorities and the Palestinian Red Crescent to ensure the delivery of aid to those in need. The aid, estimated to be in the thousands of tonnes, is being provided by Egyptian humanitarian agencies and organizations, as well as contributions from the international community.

In another development, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Washington will deploy more military equipment to the Middle East to show support for Israel.
Accordingly, the US plans to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system and additional Patriot air defense missile battalions to the Middle East and is ready to mobilize more troops. Washington has deployed to the Middle East 2 aircraft carriers along with many support ships and about 2,000 Marines.
