Eager to see the 'healthy and beautiful' grass carp of Son River and compete in catching fish quickly

On the afternoon of April 28, at Phong Nha Town (Bo Trach District, Quang Binh ), the Son River Grass Carp Competition took place, part of a series of festival programs on the occasion of April 30 - May 1, with the participation of localities in Bo Trach District.

The teams participated in 3 competitions: fast fish catching competition, healthy and beautiful fish competition, and culinary competition from Son River grass carp.

The most exciting part was the fast fishing competition, with the participation of 6 teams, each team had 2 people (1 male, 1 female), in which the female rowed the boat to take the male from the south bank to the north bank of the Son River to catch fish in an iron cage. Within the specified time, the team that caught the most fish would win first prize.

As a result, the home team Phong Nha won first prize with the "spoils of war" being 4 grass carp caught within 17 minutes and 4 seconds. The team from Lien Trach commune won second prize with 3 grass carp caught within 17 minutes and 9 seconds.

After the quick fish catching competition, the teams continued to gather to participate in the "healthy and beautiful fish" competition.

Here, each team selected the most beautiful and healthy fish in the locality to compete. As a result, the Hung Trach commune team won the highest prize with a grass carp weighing 10 kg.

A large crowd of spectators came to cheer for the teams.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nhung, a member of the Hung Trach commune competition team, was very happy when his commune's grass carp won the highest prize in the "healthy and beautiful fish" competition.

"Although I was a bit sad because my commune did not win a high prize in the fast-fishing competition, in return we won the "healthy and beautiful fish" competition. This was the first time I and my colleagues in the commune participated in the festival and I will definitely continue next year," said Mr. Nhung.

This is also an opportunity to promote the grass carp brand on the Son River.

The Son River Grass Carp Festival is considered a traditional cultural feature and is an annual activity held on the days approaching April 30th – May 1st every year. The festival aims to promote the grass carp brand on the Son River, while preserving and promoting local cultural values, honoring good fish farmers and helping people find stable outlets.
