The 2024 Vietnamese History Pride Contest with the theme "Proud of 50 years of the heroic city" ended with the first prize going to team 390 including: Hoang Hong Nhi (Van Hien University), Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tuyen (District 3 Youth Union), Lam Nguyen Ngoc Ny (Go Vap District Youth Union) and Le Hoang Vu Linh (Ho Chi Minh City College of Architecture and Construction).

You guys took number 390 which is the number of the tank that crashed the gate of Independence Palace in the past. The contest organized by Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and Tuoi Tre newspaper ended with 16 best contestants competing in the final round.

Moved to play the role of a young hero in the contest Pride of Vietnamese History

New and attractive in the final round is the contest “Young people tell history” telling a historical story. Recreating the sacrifice of 10 girls at Dong Loc crossroads with a scene combining dance and storytelling, team 390 made the audience moved, at times the hall fell silent when those 10 young volunteers sacrificed. The story seemed to remind the heroic historical days, helping young people understand more about the sacrifices and losses of their ancestors.

Meanwhile, the Flowing Stream team staged a reenactment of the young hero Vo Thi Sau. The heroine from Dat Do bravely went to the execution ground, terrifying the enemy. She fell to inspire the next generation of young people to stand up in the fight for peace and independence.

“To have independence today, young people should let the flow of history flow like blood forever in their hearts, contributing their efforts for a prosperous and strong Vietnam”, the message the team wants to share.

Meanwhile, team member Nguyen Ngoc Hung (Nha Be District Youth Union) – a member of the Torch team – played the role of hero Le Van Tam and performed a very immersive performance. Hung boasted that in order to play the role realistically, he had to research deeply about the story of this young hero.

“I really like studying history because when we understand the historical milestones of our nation, we are even more proud of the generations of our ancestors who sacrificed their blood and bones for today’s peace. I will try my best to study to become a useful person,” Hung expressed.

We chose social media platforms and TikTok as the first place to approach promoting historical clips to young people because a lot of young people are using this platform.

Spreading Vietnamese history on cyberspace

Coincidentally, all four finalist teams proposed solutions related to spreading the love of Vietnamese history on the internet. Team 390 said that when conducting the Gia Dinh – Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City journey forum, they surveyed over 100 students and all said that when they needed to know historical information, they often searched online.

Teachers at the Ho Chi Minh City College of Architecture and Construction are ready to support the restoration of lost architecture. Therefore, the group strives to carry out 50 3D model reconstructions so that everyone can experience and better understand the history of the formation and development of the city named after Uncle Ho.

“This project hopes that you will learn and share information about Gia Dinh – Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City. You can discuss and visit historical sites with just your phone without having to go there. The forum is also ready to listen to opposing opinions and will have sharing from researchers and historical experts,” said Mr. Linh.

The Duong Su Tri team alone implemented the website project “SWOT with you to learn history”. They said the feasibility was quite high because the investment of time and cost was not too expensive. The team conducted a pocket survey of students at Ngo Quyen High School (District 7) and the results showed that 61% had difficulty learning history, 43% of students felt that the current teaching method was not suitable for them. And learning history through SWOT charts made students feel more interested.

The Torch team introduces and hopes to spread Vietnamese history to international friends with 50 clips of events leading up to the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. They want to create a website to post clips so that many people can access historical information, including bilingual clips for foreign tourists.

Meanwhile, the Flow team created the Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space website on cyberspace. In addition to information, images, life and career of Uncle Ho, the website also integrates a 3D museum tour. In which, the section "Uncle Ho with the youth" includes many of Uncle Ho's advice to the younger generation. Posting information on the TikTok platform in just one day, it had more than 18,000 accesses.
