Starting a business with empathy for heart patients
James, 45, is a construction worker living in Southern California. He was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Chest pains made him live in constant fear and anxiety, bordering on life and death. Conventional medical care made James tired of relying on drugs with many side effects. He turned to Salus Health - a technology platform that provides comprehensive rehabilitation solutions for cardiovascular patients. James' journey to improve his health began with at-home blood tests, identifying biomarkers related to stress and cardiovascular symptoms.
The Salus consulting team designed a special health care plan for him, combining nutritional and exercise guidance. With their dedication and scientific care regimen, after just a few weeks, James' symptoms improved significantly, his blood pressure stabilized, his chest pain was greatly reduced, and he no longer suffered from anxiety. He confidently returned to his job supervising construction projects, and was happy with his family. He believes that this was thanks to Salus Health's comprehensive approach.
The Salus Health project is the result of the passionate construction process of young entrepreneur Trung Tran. Born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, he graduated with honors from the international business program at USC (Los Angeles, USA), HKUST (Hong Kong, China) and Bocconi University (Milan, Italy).
Salus Health was founded in June 2022. It is the result of an intensive medical research collaboration between Trung Tran and Dr. Karim El Shrief, a renowned cardiologist at Tri-City Medical Center. Together, they supported and closely analyzed the experiences of hundreds of cardiovascular patients, quickly discovering a major shortcoming in the traditional method of cardiovascular rehabilitation.
This close collaboration has revealed important systemic issues: Cardiovascular patients often face limited access to essential support services other than medications, leading to isolation, anxiety, and drug dependence.
Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. Each year, nearly 700,000 people are affected by the disease, costing the health care system more than $229 billion. One in three heart patients experience clinical anxiety or depression. Less than 10% of patients receive psychological support during their recovery, and less than 25% have access to comprehensive support. Research shows that comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programs can reduce hospital readmissions by 25-30%.
Salus Health was founded with the goal of providing a comprehensive, accessible, and proactive solution that can serve a large number of patients at once, revolutionizing cardiovascular care from Silicon Beach to the nation.

More importantly, patients have returned to activities they love, reconnected with their communities, regained their professional confidence, and significantly reduced their reliance on medications… proving the power of holistic support in the rehabilitation of cardiac patients. Connecting Vietnam and Silicon Beach
Applying technology in the healthcare sector is becoming a global trend, especially when the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we perceive, prevent and improve health. However, healthcare is also a field that requires meticulousness, professionalism and patience, and if young people start a business without passion, it will be difficult to pursue it to the end.
Trung Tran’s journey from Vietnam to Silicon Beach is a living example of the creativity of young Vietnamese people in the international arena. Sharing his plans, Trung Tran said that he still looks back to his homeland and roots, wishing to actively participate in the startup community in Vietnam, to share lessons learned from the competitive healthcare market in the US.
In the future, he hopes to bring this comprehensive care model to Vietnam and other Asian countries. “My success is linked to the fundamental cultural values nurtured in Vietnam: resilience, flexibility and dedication. I will return to my homeland one day, continuing my creative journey, applying technology in the medical field, a field that I have always loved and been passionate about.”
