Making the dream of parenthood a reality.

(PLVN) - After marriage, the thing couples most long for is the arrival of a little angel. However, not everyone is lucky enough to have children. Many infertile couples, in addition to facing heavy pressure from family and society, also have to sacrifice money and careers due to prolonged treatment and high costs. The "Hope Fund" helps infertile couples fulfill their dream of becoming parents.

The sadness of couples struggling with infertility.

For three years, Mai Trang (25 years old, Luong Son, Hoa Binh ) has been living in a state of heavy psychological distress and sadness. She and her husband have been married for three years without children. Seeing other families holding and playing with their babies, Trang and her husband couldn't help but feel disheartened. Anxious about their childlessness, they went to the hospital for an examination and learned that Trang had blocked fallopian tubes, making natural conception impossible and requiring in-vitro fertilization (IVF). However, the cost is quite high, and their family is struggling financially; both work as laborers and have very little savings. Their parents and siblings are also struggling financially, and they can't borrow money from them. They resorted to buying herbal remedies in the hope of curing their blocked fallopian tubes.

Time dragged on, and she still hadn't conceived. Her pressure intensified as her mother-in-law constantly glared at her and made sarcastic remarks, likening her to a "poisonous fruit that bears no fruit, a barren woman that bears no children." Furthermore, whenever there was a family celebration, her mother-in-law would declare to relatives: "If Trang doesn't bear a child for her husband after four years, my son will marry a new wife and find a son to carry on the family line." Each time this happened, her heart ached. She was in pain, while her husband sighed.

Mr. Do Viet, 37 years old (Tu Son, Bac Ninh ), also longed to have a child for seven years. During a medical examination, Mr. Viet learned he had a chromosomal defect that made it very difficult to conceive. From an active and confident person, Mr. Viet became depressed, anxious, and tormented by the question, "What did I do wrong?". When he met friends, he was terrified of being asked, "Why haven't you and your wife had children yet?". Desperate for a child, he and his wife borrowed money for treatment, but without success.

The cases of Ms. Mai Trang and her husband, and Mr. Do Viet and his wife, are two of approximately 1 million infertile couples in Vietnam, accounting for 7.7% (according to the Ministry of Health ). Of these, 50% of infertile couples are under 30 years old. About 30% of infertility cases are due to the husband, 30% due to the wife, 30% due to both, and 10% are of unknown cause. The rate of secondary infertility (infertility after the first pregnancy) increases by 15-20% each year and accounts for more than 50% of infertile couples. Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest infertility rates in the world.

In its latest report on global infertility rates, the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that, worldwide, an estimated 1 in 6 people will experience infertility at some point in their lives, and approximately 17.5% will be infertile for life. Infertility is the third leading cause of infertility in the 21st century, after cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Happiness overflows.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duy Phuong, Director of the Hanoi In-Vein Fertilization Center (IVF Center), the rate of infertility and subfertility is increasing and affecting younger people. Many couples, some as young as 24-25, or even 20-21, are experiencing reproductive health problems leading to infertility.

Regarding the increasing incidence of infertility, several factors contribute, including: rising ages of men and women at marriage and having children; increased environmental and food pollution affecting sperm, eggs, and the reproductive system; and climate change.

The rapidly increasing rate of infertility in Vietnam not only impacts the population but also profoundly affects the health and psychology of couples.

"The Hope Fund" - A journey to find your beloved child.

In this context, in-vitro fertilization (IVF) has become a popular and effective treatment for infertility. However, the high cost of treatment, especially for cases requiring multiple cycles, remains a major barrier, forcing many couples to postpone their dream of becoming parents. Specifically, one IVF cycle can range from 80 to 130 million VND, placing significant financial pressure on many families, not to mention travel and accommodation costs, making infertility treatment very expensive.

Understanding the pain and burdens faced by couples yearning for children, the IVF Center - Hanoi General Hospital has launched the "Hope Fund" as a commitment to accompanying, supporting, and spreading love.

On April 15, 2025, the "Hope Fund" was launched to alleviate the economic burden and offer new hope to infertile couples on their journey to having children. This event was organized by the IVF Center of Hanoi General Hospital in collaboration with Vietnam Family Magazine. The fund aims to help disadvantaged families access modern treatment without being hindered by costs, thereby bridging the gap in the journey to having children for infertile families.

Specifically, to practically support infertile couples, the "Hope Fund" will donate 2 free IVF treatments each month – an invaluable opportunity to help disadvantaged families continue their journey to have a child. In addition, the "Hope Fund" also supports infertile couples with the costs of testing, embryo creation, embryo culture, etc., even providing 100% support including travel expenses.

These couples are happy to have realized their dream of becoming parents.

At the ceremony, journalist Ho Minh Chien, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Family Magazine, emphasized: "The Hope Fund is not only an initiative to support healthcare, but also a humanitarian act, demonstrating deep concern for a disadvantaged segment of society - those who silently seek the happiness of parenthood."

Sharing about the Hope Fund, Master of Science, Doctor Nguyen Duy Phuong - Director of the Hanoi IVF Center said: “Infertility treatment techniques are often very expensive. Understanding the difficulties and hardships faced by couples, we established the Fund to help couples in difficult circumstances access the best and most modern treatment techniques, so that in the shortest possible time, couples can welcome their beloved children into their families.”

The launch of the Hope Fund is a significant milestone, demonstrating the tireless efforts of the medical team in supporting the infertile community – bringing hope, joy, and a new future to thousands of families in Vietnam.

According to doctors, infertility is treatable if detected early and modern, appropriate supportive and interventional methods are applied. Therefore, early examination is crucial to increase the chances and realize the dream of becoming parents for couples.

Although the cost of infertility treatment in Vietnam is much lower than in many other countries, it remains a burden for many families due to the lack of insurance coverage. Compared to average income, this is a significant expense, requiring additional support policies such as reducing or subsidizing treatment costs. Financial support, expanded access to infertility treatments, and increased social awareness will not only alleviate economic and psychological pressure but also enable couples to proactively choose a suitable path, balancing careers and family life.

Furthermore, authorities need to promote reproductive health education for young people from an early age, expand access to assisted reproductive technologies, and raise awareness of the role of men in building families.
