Lao Dong Newspaper reported that regarding the incident in which dozens of parents of Van Luong Primary School (Tan Son District, Phu Tho Province) gathered to block the school gate because of dissatisfaction with the revenue and expenditure, the People's Committee of Tan Son District announced the results after many days of inspection. Along with that, the Principal of Van Luong Primary School has resigned.
Accordingly, through inspection and verification, it was found that the management and use of mobilized funds to purchase a number of desks and chairs for students was slow and not on schedule.
Along with that, some expenses to supporteducational activities such as: competitions, exchanges, buying books and additional documents for the library have not provided full accounting documents... Van Luong Primary School is required to immediately return the amount of 91,690,000 VND.
Many people believe that the fact that Van Luong Primary School did not spend the correct amount of more than 91 million VND is not a big deal; and the principal's resignation over such a matter is also not worth it.
Please, in principle, if the school collects one dong from parents, it must spend exactly one dong and must have full invoices and documents. Furthermore, the problem is not whether it is 91 million dong, 9.1 billion dong or 91 billion dong.
The problem lies in the fact that in addition to the principle of revenue and expenditure, the educational environment also emphasizes setting an example. If the principal, the board of directors, and the teachers do not know how to set an example, how can they lecture students about right and wrong, about morality, about human character…?
It is no coincidence that in a recent meeting with teachers across the country, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that the principal is not an "official" in the school but a person who leads, supports, and serves colleagues...
Taking the example of educational innovation, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said the principal must be the commander, the leader in innovation in an educational institution.
If the principal does not change, it is difficult to hope for the school to change. If the principals do not change, the change of teachers will be very difficult and may lead to collapse.
Minister Nguyen Kim Son also cited the fact that "many principals, through investigation and contact, are very enthusiastic and do well, but some do not participate in training, do not study the program, and leave that work to vice principals, department heads, key teachers, etc., which has a significant impact on innovation."
When education is innovative, education management must also change – starting with the principals, from management thinking to actions, setting examples... Otherwise, the good slogans of education will forever stop outside the school gate.
