Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was appointed as Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University.
On June 12, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a decision to appoint Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai as Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University for a period of 5 years.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai has the title of professor, is Principal of Gifted High School and Vice Principal of University of Science - VNU-HCM.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was born in 1974, from Quang Ngai , graduated in chemistry from the University of General Sciences (now the University of Natural Sciences). She then obtained a doctorate in pharmaceutical chemistry from Toyama University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Japan). She was appointed associate professor in 2014 and then professor in 2021. In 2023, Prof. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai was awarded the title of Meritorious Teacher.
In the first 10 years after her PhD, she mainly focused on researching the field of drug discovery from Vietnamese medicinal herbs. Recently, she continued to conduct some applied research, completing 2 products to support gastrointestinal cancer and arthritis from domestic medicinal herbs. To date, Professor Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai has had more than 80 articles published in prestigious international scientific journals.
With research on products from bees raised in Vietnam, Professor Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai's research team won the Golden Globe Award in 2017 and the Ho Chi Minh City Innovation Award in 2019. She was awarded the Kovalevskaia Award in 2021 for female scientists with outstanding achievements in scientific research and practical application, bringing many benefits to life.
With the appointment of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai as Vice Director, the Board of Directors of VNU-HCM has 3 members, including: Director Mr. Vu Hai Quan and 2 Vice Directors Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai.
