TPO - On the second morning of the National Day holiday, September 2, Tan Son Nhat Airport - Ho Chi Minh City was surprisingly clear due to a decrease in the number of passengers.

According to reporters' records on the morning of September 1, Tan Son Nhat International Airport was very clear, different from previous peak holiday periods.

At the domestic terminal check-in area, the number of passengers was not too crowded even though it was the middle of the holiday season. At the domestic terminal security screening area, many passengers were surprised by the clear situation.

Outside the terminal, passengers can easily catch a taxi or ride-hailing car to leave the airport without having to wait long.

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen (30 years old, living in Go Vap district) shared with reporters that because she was afraid of the crowded scene and long waiting time on the first day of the holiday, she booked tickets for her family to return to her hometown in Binh Dinh on the morning of September 1.

“Most people probably went back to their hometowns and traveled on August 30 and 31. This morning (September 1), the airport had few passengers and all procedures were processed quickly. My family did not have to spend much time,” said Ms. Tuyen.

A representative of Tan Son Nhat International Airport said the reason for the decrease in passenger numbers on September 1st was because many people had taken advantage of the early days to return to their hometowns and travel.

September 3, the last day of the holiday, is expected to be the peak day for arrivals. Tan Son Nhat International Airport will serve about 730 flights. Passenger volume is expected to reach about 125,000 passengers/day.

Yesterday (August 31) - the first day of the September 2 holiday, Tan Son Nhat airport was also very clear, not crowded or overloaded like previous years.

Previously, Tan Son Nhat International Airport also forecast that during the peak period of the National Day holiday (from August 30 to September 3), the airport is expected to operate an average of 700 flights/day with the number of passengers reaching about 120,000 people/day (an increase of about 8% compared to the current number of passengers of 110,000 people/day). This forecast shows that the number of passengers during the September 2 holiday this year will decrease by about 5,000 passengers/day compared to the same period in 2023.

However, starting the holiday (August 31), Tan Son Nhat International Airport operated 644 flights with a total of more than 100,000 passengers. Thus, the number of passengers arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport during the September 2 holiday decreased sharply compared to forecasts.
