Coach Jesus has decided to leave. |
Immediately after the 4-1 victory against Damac on the morning of May 22nd, a match that ended Al Nassr's seven-year championship drought, coach Jorge Jesus confirmed he would be leaving the team.
"For me, it's all over. This is the last match I'll be working for Al Nassr," the 71-year-old strategist shared, thus concluding his short but successful journey in Saudi Arabia.
Under Jorge Jesus' leadership, Al Nassr made significant investments to compete for the championship with Al Hilal. A host of stars such as Kingsley Coman, Joao Felix, and Inigo Martinez were brought in to upgrade the squad and serve their ambition of conquering the Saudi Pro League.
The Portuguese coach admitted he understood the pressure from the very first day he took over Al Nassr. However, according to Jorge Jesus, what helped the team overcome the difficult period was the team's unity and determination.
Notably, Coach Jesus also revealed that he had a special conversation with Cristiano Ronaldo before officially taking the job.
"I told Cristiano that I would help him become a champion. And we did it," he shared.
For Ronaldo, this is his first domestic title since moving to Saudi Arabia. At 41, the Portuguese superstar continues to demonstrate his immense influence both on and off the pitch, and remains central to Al Nassr's triumphant journey.
However, the championship also presents a new challenge for the Saudi Arabian team. Following the departure of Jorge Jesus, Al Nassr will have to find a coach capable of maintaining their competitive position and continuing to work alongside Ronaldo in the final years of his career.
